My dealer says I am making a BIG mistake if I don稚 order the optional "gummy" wheels (chrome 5 spoke). I like the looks of the new silver painted aluminum split spoke, but he says I値l be sorry later. He says no sane Corvette owner would ever be seen in this new spoke! He says it痴 "tacky". I haven稚 seen this wheel on a car and can稚 find a picture with my color choice (Crystal red convertible, black top). Can anyone help me with a picture(s) or personal experience? Thanks.

You should get yourself another dealer....

You should have said "No sane salesmen should put down an option a customer wants." To me what he told you isnt good business practices, its your money and your car. I think he is just saying that because the wheels he wants you to get are more money IMO.
I bought a 2007 that was still on the lot in January. I almost asked the dealer if he would swap the chrome wheels on mine for the split spokes on an '08 that was on his lot.
I personally like the split spoke....if that makes me "tacky" then so be it.
But get as many pics as you can with your color/wheel combo.
your dealer is not you. either you need to change dealers, or get your own views in order. look at the major forum vendor sites, i.e., conti, boardwalk, etc.
I wouldn't necessarily do what the dealer suggests. Personally, I resisted buying 'upgraded' wheels from the factory and I'm glad I waited. I would have paid extra for the optional factory wheels only to see other wheels I liked better later on. IMO leave your wheels stock and give yourself some time to figure out what you really like....there are some great after-market wheels.

and that is exactly what I did! after a few months, I knew what I wanted, and found them at a reduced price from what the option would have cost.

... You can always pick up chrome OEM's at substantial savings if you decide later you like them. Lots of OP's switch to after market and sell their OEM's at attractive prices. Get the stock wheels unless you simply LOVE the OEM chromes.........
Not a vert, but it is Crystal Red. Go with the chrome wheels. You may even want to consider the newest chrome wheel. Q9V maybe? Not sure on the code, but they are the same price. Ordered with the car and the wheels have the same warranty are the rest of the car.

I bought an 08 with the standard wheels thinking I would change to aftermarket at some time. I like them enough to where I'm in no hurry to change.
There are enough people on the Forum selling Gumbys that you can buy them later if you want 'em.
My 2 cents worth.

Sounds like the dealer who told me that if I would just be a little flexible in what I was asking for I could have the car of my dreams. No, it would have been the car of HIS dreams. Find a new dealer if you can. If he's this dumb selling the car, how is he going to treat you when you aren't about to give him $50K?
As far as the wheels, personally I would always take chrome over painted or polished. It does depend on car color (black? no way!) but I think they would look good on the red. I also believe they will look good longer. I've had polished before and the first time you get wheel work done they scratch the clear coat and the corrosion starts. But this is your car and not mine and certainly not the dealer's. Get what you want.
I think the gumby wheels are the nicest styled 5 spoke wheels I have seen on a corvette. When people put them up for sale in the parts section they don't long.

That's my plan ... when I placed my order last week the sales guy pushed hard on me getting the upgraded wheels ... my response was basically ... I did not want to have $1200 wheels sitting on my garage floor after I upgrade ... I do not have the budget to do it soon, but in the next 12-18 months I will be getting some wheels and at that point, any OEM upgrade would have been a waste of money.
I think the '08 split spoke wheels look great. They look even better when you have them chromed (IMHO). Here are some pictures of my CRM convertible when it first got to the dealership (last summer). They aren't the best shots...but it gives you an idea of what they look like on CRM
you can buy chrome plated FACTORY wheels for $700 exchanged from many vendors. Your dealer is trying to get you to spend another $2000 for the same thing.......well not exactly, the FACTORY wheels are not chrome plated in the barrells the aftermarket ones are. Tell the dealer he will be sorry he cost himself a sale and move on
