Default Settle an argument

Hi,
I've gotten into a discussion about an alignment job that a friend had done. I am saying that his 06 is not aligned properly.

The distance from where the corner of the door, rocker panel and rear fender meet to the center of the rear wheel on one side of the car is not the same as distance on the other side.

In other words, take a tape and measure the distance from the center of one rear wheel to the point where the rear fender, rocker and door meet. I am saying that these should be the same on both sides (or close). The measurements on his car are quite different.

Can any one give me measurements of your car to see what your non damaged cars come out to?

Thanks,

Dave

Becareful, Dave! There are some on here that will think you're OCD if you bring this up! I can't explain it either, other than sloppy engineering. Search "Tale of the Tape" in C6 general...

OCD? OCD? Now should that be cap's or not?????? ocd does not look right.

What brought it up was just looking at his car, one of the wheels did not appear to be centered in the rear wheel opening. I'm not talking a 1/4 of an inch difference, but maybe an inch or more? I suggested that the car may have had some damage and they did may not have done the 'X' measurement when the car was aligned. You can actually see quite a difference as to where the rear wheels sit in the openings of the fenders. The right is almost touhing the brake cooling plastic.

I was just trying to give my noncomputer friend some ammo to help understand if he has a problem with the car that might be frame or suspension related.

i think that would be a bad repair job or manufacting defect, but the alignment might be ok as long as the four corners are within geometric specs with one another (not with body panels, but I agree those should be fairly close too)...

It could be off, no question about that. But probably the more important measurement is center of wheel hub to center of wheel hub, front to rear, on both sides.

I was called OCD, but,,,,

I finally got time to measure a new C6 and found it was 26 3/8" while my buddies car is 25 1/2". I guess 1" is no big deal, but,,,,,, the right wheel is rubbing against the cooling duct.

Looks like frame or suspension damage to me. There are only two adjustments on the rear, one for camber and one for toe in, so not much can be done to move the wheel back other than more serious tuning.

Not OCD.

That doesn't sound OCD to me, that sounds like a serious problem. I would be pissed if one of my tires was an inch further forward than the other

If the Vette has had some serious repair done to it, then consider that some of the difference in your measurements could be due to the body panels and door location not matching on each side. Wheel to wheel would be a better and more accurate location to test for an alignment check.

Its old news that the 2005/2006 cars had some alignment issues. I had my nearly brand new 2006 checked at 1200 miles and it required some adjustment, just as many others had reported. I saw the car up on the rack myself and it needed some tweaking...
