I hope someone can help me. The vett makes a "clunk" when you are stopping most of the time. I can duplicate it by going from rev to drive, drive to rev etc. Is this normal or do i have some worn out parts? 10k on clock..
Thanks in advance....
P.S. I did do a search on rear end clunking and i am sure it is not the differential clutch releasing.

Have you done any suspension work? Swapped out your sway bars? The clunk sound you describe reminds me of a sway bar end link being loose.
It is funny, As you reply I read your forum name and should have figured it out.
Are you sure it is more than the normal "gear change" sound associated with an automatic transmission changing state? There is a long torque tube that needs to transfer back to the transmission. Drive to Reverse and vice versa will make a bit of a clunk but a light sound. The same sound shouldn't necessarily be heard as the transmission downshifts as you come to a stop.
It is possible that you may have a problem with your transmission but without hearing it it will be very difficult to diagnose over the forum. You might consider a trip to the dealer to have it looked at.
I got with 8k on it! And i love the car (first vett) so at first i didn't realy notice the sound but now that i have been driving it for a little bit i don't like the sound of the clunk because imho it is a little load to be normal.
I had an 06 (10K miles) which I traded in for an 08. Prior to trade in I started noticing a clunking sound. I recall a TSB fix for this. Changing the diff lube oil with a different one by GM was the fix. I believe that my dealer who took the trade in did this under warranty after they had accepted the car.
I don't believe it made any difference if A6 or M6, but I could be wrong.
My noise is from the center back and it happens mostly when i am sitting at the light when the automatic is shifting into 1st.
Myron - When did you hear your noise and where????

My clunk was in the read ,felt like the right side. The pos.clutch packs hanging up.&also my B&B exhust was rubbing the frame.
My M6 suffers from the same clunk... it's especially noticeable when driving at low speeds in 1st/2nd gear in stop/start traffic. Also occasionally happens when I put the clutch in for the 1-2 shift. As the OP says, it's quite loud... enough to be clearly audible from outside the car.
There have been more than enough threads posted about this to assume it's a 'characteristic' of the C6. Yes, there are issues with the clutch packs in the diff, but I believe that is a different issue and is apparent only when turning (when the clutch packs have reason to engage/disengage). I suspect the C6 simply has quite a bit of lash in the driveline and that long torque tube probably doesn't help. I'm learning just to live with it by being extra smooth on the throttle and clutch at v.low (1mph-10mph) speeds.
Diff fluid needs to be changed - your dealer should know all about it. Had mine done at 8k. Dealer will take care of this while under waranty. Hope this helps..... Wayne
I'm pretty sure that it is not coming from the clutch pack in the diff. but with that being a problem in other vetts i will change it anyway tomorrow or over the weekend. Any one recommend anything better lube then Mobil 1? And I will try to never bring it to the dealer, i like my vett...
I've had this issue with the 07 A6/Z51 vert since the 500 mile break in. I have done all the dif lub flushes, figure eights etc. Primarily the issue can be replicated on my car by coming on an off throttle [in stop and go traffic is best] at 11-12mph. Mine is a bang more than a clunk. Additionally it is also present when coming on/off throttle from 3rd to 4th. Intermitently you will get hesitation until it finds what gear it wants to be in... which is dangerous.
Now I've been to several dealerships all who hear it- no one can fix it.
GM will disavow any knowledge of it.
Can you say fustrated?

I had a similar problem and solved it by putting the car up on a lift. Picked it up on the frame, rotated the rear tire stopping it abruptly and listening for the clunk. It was a bad universal joint. One of the "u" bolts was bad causing a slight delay producing the clunking sound when i put it into gear. I,m not saying it,s your problem but it resolved mine.
I had a similar clunking on mine and the dealer replaced the passenger side half shaft. I had it in the prior month for rear end chatter to get the fluid changed.
