Default I decided not to

Get my GMPP. First of all let me just say that I do not believe in or have any extended warranty for anything i own. i think the odds are stacked against the consumer on these. or at least most of us. However, when it came to my vette, I thought thats a whole different story when you consider how much you're gonna pay if it breaks! I was very adament about getting one and nothing was gonna get in my way.

Then I read consumer report on the subject. Then thought, given my cars particular track record, I don't autocross, I don't drag race(yet) and the only problem I've ever had was the erratic fuel guage (and that was just a software upgrade) the roof is fine no probs there, well hell, why don't I just take that money, add it to my money market account or invest it later on when the rates get a little better, and if something breaks, we'll have the $ to fix it. I also have some bonds that I plan to use for that too.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it. Just thought I'd share that rationale with ya.
So I don't know I'm trying to convince, YOU or ME???

I felt the same way UNTIL I got the Vette. I've never bought an extended warranty, figured I'd "self insure" and save the money. Never needed to use a warrranty on anything else. Although with the Vette I figure one issue and it will pay for itself. Search for GMPP and Fitchner and send them an email for a quote. I got exactly what I wanted at a great price. Just my opinion.

P.S. Thank you for your servce.

Its just insurance. If you are in a position to cover a $3-4K loss then it makes sense to do so. Maybe you will never have to, maybe you will. Its a gamble either way. I feel better being covered and hope I never have to use it. Kind of like life insurance...

Default warranty

My warranty's up june 20/08, had a hole in battery that took a long time for dealer to diagnose. Been told that there's a computer mod under batter tray. When I picked up car and they had diagnosed prob, put in new battery, never showed me old one. On picking up the car, I popped the hood and looked at the new battery. The tray underneath was completely full of water. I touched my finger in, and took small taste and could taste battery acid. I assure you, that I'm taking the car back as soon as snow melts and go over this with a fine tooth comb with the DEALER......

Consumer Reports, hopefully, wasn't your "tipping point." Yes, they're supposedly impartial and no ads, and blah blah. But they've been so consistently wrong in so many areas, that I often wonder how they stay around? Must be those lack of ads and all the mags and services they sell.

Your decision tho, and since it's not insurance or a warranty (I cheated and read it at the counter), but a prepaid repair plan, it could be expensive even with the refund if you don't use all or part of it.

Its really a personal decision on to buy one or not and there isn't a right answer. From what I have seen around here a lot of people have trouble holding on to their car when the next year's model comes out anyways.

I decided to buy GMPP when a buddy of mine who's a Vette tech told me the costs of fixing the electronics.

Similar reason why I bought a GMPP...Hopefully I won't need to use it.

I just got the GMPP for my '05 last week, and at a measly $1140 for 4 yrs/32k, thats CHEAP insurance and peace of mind. I only had the fuel cap replaced under the factory warranty so far. But we have one of the most technologically advanced cars on the road, so what IF...?

It's like most any insurance...it's nice to have if you need it. That said I've never bought an extended warranty on any car. Modifications notwithstanding, I wouldn't buy one on my C6 either.

Fear caused me to buy mine. On hindsight and after reading the fine print, nothing much is covered. I've lost the money unless something major breaks. What's the chance?

The warranty expired last month on my 05 and I purchased an extended from Fitchner. To me its pretty cheap insurance against future problems. I don't put many miles on mine but I was happy to get another 4 years of coverage.

I purchased the GMPP Major Guard service contract for the same reason - the C6 State of the Art Electronics !
