Navigation Tie Ends
My debate is between stock nav or a pioneer system.
Will I lose any thing with the pioneer system?
If so what.
I don't know squat about the Pioneer system, but another thing to be aware of is that the factory Nav system is also tied into the car in other ways... the main other example that I can think of (besides the HUD, which can display your directions onto the windshield)... is that the stock system can also "partially" operate with no GPS signal. It does this by being tied to the speedo (I believe). So, if you are in a large city with tall buildings, and can't get GPS reception, the stock system is able to figure out where you are. It just figures it knew the location of your car before losing signal... and then calculates that you were moving at X miles per hour for Y amount of seconds, and approximates your position. It also senses turns.
Related topic: I haven't looked on this board to research this, but, I'm not 100% sure how it recognizes turns when there is no GPS signal, but it *does* recognize that you're turning. It doesn't *appear* to be tied to the compass though (which would make the most sense to me, but is not apparently true, since mine will sometimes go nuts and think I'm headed south when I'm really headed north). Rather, I have concluded that it must be tied to the g-meter to detect turns. So, it's like an inertia guidance system when it loses GPS signal. Not a great one, mind you, because it *does* sometimes get confused. And, for the life of me, I can't figure why the stupid thing isn't just tied to the compass to detect turns... seems like it would be 1000x easier to base the backup guidance system on speed/compass (which it doesn't), rather than to make the backup system based on inertia/speed/gs (which it does). But, it's far better than nothing.
Anyway, this is my interpretation.
You might also have to worry about XM and stuff like that, if you have it. But, once again, I don't know the Pioneer, and I don't know for sure I'm correct about the factory's backup system.
Oh, also, edit... what else will you lose? Money.
Another edit... just FYI, the nav is also tied to speakers and the microphone input (so you can hear directions through your radio, and so that you can input your commands with your voice... "go home" "I am hungry" "I need gas" etc.)
Side joke: Oh, but wait, Crystal Red? Nope, navs don't work with that color.

It has Bluetooth, XM traffic, and Ipod capability and the maps are better detailed. If you go to AVIC411.com, you can also get the mod to get full access to all the functions while driving (including DVD)
The HUD display is nice, but the Pioneer is far superior.
