i feel your pain, mine just hit a rock too but not the windshiled. it left a 1/4" scratch I can't buff off and 2 scuffs close to the edge of the hood and front right fender. It's a good thing it was on the edge and not in the middle of the hood. i just touched it up and swallowed the pain
With full glass coverage on my auto insurance I've always replaced chipped or cracked windshields, however, when I first got a chip on my C6 windshield not long after I got it, I didn't want to replace the glass. I opted for a repair instead. I had never done this before but I was actually quite pleased with the results. The ding was almost directly in my line of sight...you really have to look hard to find where the repair was made. That was almost two years ago.
Last Saturday I was driving to Phoenix and a pickup truck at least 75 yards ahead kicked-up a rock which put a significantly larger 'star' on my windshield. I may try another repair but if it isn't virtually perfect, I will just have the glass replaced.
Remember, if you have the HUD you need a special 'reflective' windshield glass which is a part of the HUD system.
Shortly after I got the car, I got a small one, but it's right by the A pillar and not visible from the inside. I just got another one this past weekend. Going down a twisty, single-lane mountain road, some lifted truck going the opposite direction kicked up a rock and the impact scared the crap out of me. It left a bigger chip, toward the middle of the passenger side. Fortunately, it's in the area that is blocked from my view by the rear view mirror. I probably won't do anything about it.

I have no idea where the rock came from, as i was very far from the vehicle in front of me. As with your first one this is a very tiny speck and I see no reason to replace the glass. I either live with it or repair it if I find a competent (proven) glass repair shop in this area.
When I returned from Tucson a couple of weeks ago, on my other car, a truck must have thrown something out his window when we crossed, on a 2-lane road and violently hit my windshield and hood. I had the glass replaced and the hood re-sprayed.
Arizona has to be the number 1 state for rock chips! Must have half a dozen small chips in my windshield...I fill them in with a black felt pen...hides them fairly well.

That's why AZ is one of the few states you can buy glass replacement with your insurance.
New car and already got a (tiny) windshield chip. Too many rocks on our roadways.
How many do you have? What have you done about those? Is there a decent epoxy solution that reduces the opacity of the chip?

just call up your insurance company and have them replace it, in Florida it's free.
While you may not have to pay any deductible out of your own pocket, it is hardly "free." You're paying for it with higher premiums.
Here in Minnesota, glass coverage is mandatory with comp/collision insurance, and there is no deductible. But, our premiums reflect that fact, trust me. Luckily, they are not allowed to count glass replacement against you when it comes to renewing the policy (too many claims = non-renewal).
There is no free lunch.
As for what to do, I simply live with the small dings in the glass. In a year or two, there will be enough to justify replacing the glass. Until then, I simply live with it.

There are quite a few who are in the business of repairing the glass. It does take some time to do it right, and the good ones will tell you if it is or isn't completely fixable. Meaning, some cracks/chips/stars could spread even after they've been done.
Most won't. I suggest you check around, talk to premium car dealer service mgrs. as to who they use to do chip repairs. Eventually, you'll get a consensus on 2 or 3 names. Might want to cross ref with those in phone book under windshield repair/replacement.
