Default Installing the DSV Boot

When installing the DSV Shift Boot for a 08 M6, does the plastic ring (leather is stapled to) go up behind the chrome trim ring? It seems I can't get mine to fully seat and you can see the tabs at 5 and 7 o'clock. Just not wanting to break anything. Also, has anyone used the chrome ring from the stock boot?

The plastic ring & boot should fit tight to the chrome trim ring.

Try rotating it slightly. The tabs might be out of alignment.
I had to mess with mine to get the tabs to snap back in place.

Or - worst case - you may have stapled the trim ring on backwards.
It's not symmetrical.

I will give it a try. I stapled the leather onto the ring and the 12 o'clock tab is pointed forward.

I believe that's your problem.
The tab on the front is at about 11 o'clock......if I remember correctly.

It sounds like you have the tabs in approximately the correct locations.

As I recall from my install I needed to rotate the ring slightly to get the tabs to seat. I also recall that I needed to press the tab portion of the ring down much further than I was expecting. Try both of these things and see if you can get it to seat. The tabs should fully disappear and engage the console so that the boot will hide them.

Thanks Guys, I just had to rotate the boot and it looks really good. I took the chrome ring off the stock boot and installed it on my DSV Boot. Looks very nice and the chrome ring secures the boot to the shifter much better.

Good job!

I re-used the original chrome ring too.
But, it keeps slipping off of the new leather shift boot.
I'll probably have to glue it.
