I had to cancel my XM subscription today (actually it will be canceled on April 19, 2008). XM sent me a letter informing me my subscription will automatically renew at some ridiculous rate. I called them and the representative stated he could not renew at $77.00, so I told him to cancel it on the 19th of April, and he obliged. Has anyone else had better luck with XM renewal recently? I like it but not at $12.95 a month, especially when I am putting less than 5k miles on my car a year.

When I can get it at ~$5.00/month I will subscribe. Otherwize - I'm happy as I am.

I'm sure there will be some new, better deal once the merger with Sirius goes through, but that may take a little while. Also, once you cancel, they may send you the "Zwinback" card for $77.00. Seems like a strange way to operate, but...

They renewd mine at a ridiculous rate. I paid for like 2 or 3 years in advance and when it was done they renewd the same exact plan I purchased the first time. I was just mad so I cancelled.

Mine expires 4-6-08 I called last week and told them "do not auto bill and to just cancel my subscription". They gave me 3 more months free and said they would invoice me 7-6-08. Then yesterday I get a letter stating your subscription is set to automatocally renew on 4-6-08.

This may be a mistake but I think I'll just wait and see. Either way I'm going to cancel.

That doesn't surprise me. It took at least 4 phone calls just to get my trial subscription started, not counting that the dealer supposedly had already got this going - and each time I had to listen to the sales pitch.
I don't understand how they operate.
I'm supposed to get a 3 month free subscription to try the service and see if I like it. Even before they get that working for me they try and sign you right up for 2yrs, 1yr, month-by-month, and whatever other plan they can come up with. I had to go through the same explanation each time....I'm not buying anything until I hear what it sounds like.

After my subscription was started I finally realized why they wanted to signup up front - they knew I would not purchase the service once I sampled it.

Be thankful they cancelled you. It took me better than a YEAR to get loose from that group of thieves. This was non-Vette service - I was sucker enough to buy their stupid radio.

Mine expires in April also. My Credit card expired so they sent me a notice. I called and told them to cancel because it was too much $$. He offered me around $100 per year and I said it was still too much but if he could give me $77 for a year I would keep it. Done and for $2 they will bill me and they no longer have my credit card!

Never give subscription services (XM/Sirius, cable, satellite, etc.) a credit card.

Call in the middle of the day and you will get the Canadian CS team. I renewed yesterday for the third time at $77+$2. Called the XMradio 800 number on my renewal notice at 10:30 AM Pacific time. Got the Canadian person after wading through the phone tree. Got a little push back after she noticed I had the deal twice before. I told her that I only drive 5,000 miles a year and work 3 miles from home (which is true), I said I am lucky to hear one song before arriving at work. She agreed to the deal right after the 5,000 miles a year comment. It was not big deal, really.

Same thing that I did. Told the customer service person that I simply didn't drive it enough to warrant the full price. Told to transfer me to the cancellation department and then told that person the same thing. I explained to her that I wasn't trying to cut a good deal, but it wasn't worth that much money for the limited time that I use it. I also told them that this auto-billing was not agreed too. Anyway, she agreed and sent me the bill for $77.
