Need some advice folks. I dropped off my wheels and new skins at our local tire store for mounting and balance. Each wheel was marked with masking tape referencing the appropriate corner. I attached the masking tape to the weights. Some of you already see this one coming. They did not reattach the stickies. It’s a gamble on getting the wheels mounted in the right corner. Any suggestions on getting it right the first time. I’m standing here holding a torque wrench.
it shouldn't be a problem what side you put them on, as long as they are balanced....and the fronts are on the front, rear on rear!
They will be fine.
Won't the computer get confused as to which tire sensor is on each corner?
I guess if you really had to, you could let 5 lbs of air out of one front, and one rear tire. Mount the wheels on the car, drive it around the block, see what your tire pressure readouts are on your dash. If you let the air out of the left side tires, but the computer says the right ones are low, well there you go.
I get it now. You don't know which side because of the TPM. That's easy, let the air out of one front and one rear and look at your DIC to see which one it is.
I was hoping to avoid the labor/time loss, but guess I can't get around it. I'll throw the dice and bolt them up with pressure dropped on one side. Now where did I put those loaded dice? Hmmm . . . .
Do you have a nearby Discount Tire? It's my understanding most DT stores will take a minute to re-set your wheel sensors...at no charge. Call them first to make sure they have the proper TPMS tool for the C6 and ask if they'll do it...and if there's any charge.
Have the car in learn mode when the guy walks outside with the re-set tool and it will take him approximately 1 minute.
But....the tires only go one direction, so you are already stuck as to which wheel goes on which corner...yes??? Maybe they figured that they could then just take off your stickers because they were unneccessary...
I think all the tires that could go on a Corvette will be directional...they are all high-end..

I did not know that, I guess I just figured that most high end tires are directional... So I guess we just have to hope he picked a directional tire eh!!

DT, well . . . that's where the problem started. I prefer to avoid having anyone work on my Vette when ever possible. Let’s just call it experience. So I pulled the wheels myself. As many vehicles they service, I aSSumed they would get it right, but no sweat.:

Supercar Tires indeed.
So here’s the shake out, With the unit on jack stands I mounted both driver’s side wheels, dropped them to 25 PSI and gave them a spin, but no change on the DIC readings. I mounted the other two and the readings changed on startup, still on jack stands. I was half right. Fronts had to be swapped. Back on the ground and a spin around the block confirmed. Seems I may come close to breaking even in Vagas this summer. Now if I could just get rid of all these bugs collecting on my v-yellow.
