I find it easiest to give it a wipe down with a damp towel after I am done washing it. Staying on top of the dirt is a lot easier than trying to catch up to it. If I want to detail it I've found I like the Armour All cleaning wipes and detail wipes. It only takes a couple of minutes and keeps it looking like new. My car has over 18,000 miles and this photo is typical of my engine bay.

hahaha....if that is typical, I wonder what it looks like when you call it exceptional! You have a gift for understatement!

I think you'll find it very easy to keep up with this way.

The painted caps come from forum vendor Pipedreams. You can find them here on his website:

The photos don't come close to doing them justice.

The engine bay looks great Rollie. You think it might be a Precision red thing?

Give it a great cleaning and then just wipe it down after every drive or two. It is really very easy to keep clean, about all that gets into the engine bay is dust and very small type gravel pieces. Heres a few pics of mine and its a daily driver.

I use a 50/50 mix of Mr Clean on a really dirty engine. On one that just has some dust etc. I use motorcycle wash and it rinses very well. Been doing this for years.

The engine compartments shown here don't need cleaning. They need to be used.

Mostly takes time and elbow grease. I use some vinyl and rubber protectant. Rags and brushes. Don't use a water hose due to electronics. It's best if you regularly keep up with it.

As Paul stated use a damp rag to wipe down the engine compartment, do this at least once a month and you will have a clean engine compartment. Your worst enemy is spilled oil or fluids be sure to clean up good after oil changes.

Just to answer the OPs question, I have to say I find the engine compartment relatively easy to keep clean. I use a little compressed air to blow away dust and small debris that occasionally builds up on top of the frame rails (or fleat surfaces forward in the engine compartment and I wipe the engine down when I wash the car. It stays looking like new.
