I agree with Paul. The Armour All cleaning wipes are great in the engine bay, especially on the hoses. The only disadvantages to the wipes are that you have to wipe each surface which means long arms and a lot of stretching is useful. I have found a product, Stoners Trim Shine that will make the hoses look like new just like the Armour All wipes but with less effort. Just spray on the hoses and that's it. No wipe down.

I've had my car for a year (Mar 07) and have over 17K on it. This is what my engine bay looks like as of today.

Does anyone use compressed air to blow the dust out of the engine bay often? I have an air compressor in my garage I was wondering if it would be helpful?

I use my air compressor to get out the small debris that gathers. Just be sure to use eye protection!

I use a small brush and a vacuum for areas that trap grit.

I haven’t used an air compressor because I’d think that it would blow the dirt from one corner of the engine bay to the other. Some folks use them, so I guess it works. I have used a shop vac and vacuumed the dirt from the cracks and crevices in the engine bay.

Not too many auto parts stores carry the Stoners Trim Shine. O'Reiley's is the only auto parts store I've found it at. I've had better luck online. One of the forum vendors carry it also.

Agree that just staying on top of it weekly or monthly is the easiest way... with a damp cloth or the like.

I use engine shampoo, hose it down, dry it by running the engine for 15 minutes, and then top off with Stoners Trim Shine...looks great.

I use a rechargeable battery powered leaf blower(Task Force 18 volt) to blow the water and dust out from under the hood after a wash as well as the mirrors, wheels, etc. It works great,it's easy to handle, and is just powerful enough to do the job and not blow parts off the car.

Simple Green is my cleaner for the motor & wheels and tires. I never put any kind of shiny stuff on anything but the tires, but that's just me, the auto painter that fears armor all and the like for it's bad properties such as monster fish-eyes!

I live down a dusty, dirt road. The only way I can keep my engine bay looking pristine is with Photoshop.
