Garmin "Nuvi" series is superior to all others. Read the professional reviews and find out for yourself.

Call me a troglodyte (I probably am!) but my favorite navigation system
is still the ROAD MAP. I like the "big picture" that only comes from a state or province road map and I like that I'm choosing which route I'll take rather than having the choices made for me!

Alpine Blackbird. By far the best Nav system for the money. It does stuff no other GPS on the planet does.

Bought my first Garmin a Street Pilot 230 (?) maybe 3 years ago. Very basic but did the job. At that time GPS units were still pretty pricey. My wife pretty much took that. About a year later I got a great deal on a Street Pilot 550. I was pretty happy with that and it added Bluetooth.
I recently found Amazon had the Nuvi 660 for 286 (before it went up to 316 and then up again) and I had a 100 coupon due to my having bought 2 HDDVD players last year so 186 was too hard to pass up.

I made up a mount for my vette based on a thread I saw here which involved the top of a black spray paint can, black tape and the Garmin disc. Fits perfectly in the front cup holder and when the mounting arm is removed you can close the door and no one will even see where you mount your Garmin.

There are many to choose from. I don't really think you can go wrong.

Garmin Nuvi. Magellan uses Windows OS and freezes quite a bit (no slam on MS, just a fact). Tom Tom is ok, but I like the Garmins.

I've had my Garmin 255W (widescreen) for a few years. It's my first GPS and is very easy to use.

Price has come way down. Now only $119 at amazon.

I purchased a Garmin Street Pilot 550 several years ago. I looked at replacing it several months ago as I needed new maps. After looking at the current models available, I purchased lifetime maps for the unit that I have. I like the external volume **** for use with the built in blue tooth. Newer models require you to use touch screen.

I've got factory navs in my vert & wife's Lincoln MKZ. Got a Tom Tom in my dd and I've used Magellans in rent-a-cars. Here's my short take: the Magellans sucked - very difficult to operate, with poor graphics; the 09 vert's factory system has poor graphics, is almost impossible to use in daylight with top down, and is difficult to program/operate; I like the MKZ's factory nav better, and I like the Tom Tom best of all. If I were to get a new vette, I'd save the big bucks and look into a Garmin or another Tom Tom. Trust me, you do not want the factory vette nav or the Magellan.

I fly with Garmins and drive with Garmins. I trust the data base and capture rates. With any you will need to update the data at regular intervals.

Tried others... I now use Google Nav on my android phone. Vastly superior to anything I've used up until now - and it's free!
