Does anyone know whether Torch Red or a similar color will be available on the Corvette at some point? As silly as it sounds, one of the reasons that I sold my '05 vert is that I grew to hate the Victory Red, especially when the car sat next to my '00 Torch Red coupe in the garage.
As tempting as it is to get another C6, I just can't pull the trigger until my preferred shade of red is available.
If you want to see the ONE TR C6 ever made, it is in the museum. Maybe you can log on and look at it on their web page....it does look different than the VR by a bunch.........
The Torch Red C6 that GM built looks great and in spite of oft repeated forum tripe "shows the C6 lines" just fine. In reality, it is just pinhead executives at GM with nothing better to do screwing around with red paint to justify their paycheck - just one more example of too much useless overhead at GM. And after all that GM brain power, the Cobalt Red interior is yet another red and doesn't really compliment the Victory Red paint as well as it could.
I have a 2008 Victory Red Corvette now and it is OK. I also had Torch Red C5's. With the Torch Red, I routinely met a lot of nice people who knew nothing about Corvettes but took time out of their day to compliment me about the red paint on the Corvette. Nobody has yet stopped me to talk about Victory Red. I haven't had it all that long, but in reality it's just another red and I don't expect the compliments to pick up.
I'd say don't hold your breath about Torch Red returning. If you like yellow, the Velocity Yellow is kind of a yellow version of Torch Red; it's the only "loud" color available. I had a yellow 2006 and it got a lot of positive attention.
In the mean time, don't be so picky. Red paint not withstanding, the car is pretty much improved in most areas, the red is decent enough not to complain about and has good resale, so get one and just have some fun with it.
Roman Red, or Torch Red was what I really wanted, but all Chevy would produce is these strange euro reds that look like someone has spent too much time at the cosmetics counter. Victory Red was almost the right red and looked okay with dark wheels, but it wasn't the Chevy Red I wanted.
As far as interior reds go I'll pass as they are not a corvette red and look way too dull for my taste.
Just since this is a red thread thought I share what I think is a stellar red combo... I have a pristine 1990 ZR-1 in Bright Red and Flame Red interior>>>
and yes I do have a C6 so think me not crazy to be over here on the C6 forum
Well, maybe if we are lucky, next year's "Special Edition" Z06 could be in honor of Joe Spielman - who was the reason the Torch Red C6 in the museum was painted that color in the first place.
Considering his contributions to keeping the Corvette alive, I think it would only be fair!
Torch red is my absolute favorite as well. For the C6, VR was my choice, the only lighter shade red made for it so thats what I bought. If GM came out with a new torch red color, I'm afraid I'd have to trade up as well :o
Despite Nevada Bob's assertions and since I've not only been spreading the forum tripe I recall I was the first one that said it. The C6 looked hideous in Torch Red. I've seen it in person. I too owned a C5 in Torch red and it worked on that car. While not my favorite red it did garner its fair share of attention. I always hated the way it would go orange in the wrong light.
Just to be fair, it wasn't the GM executives that didn't like the Torch red. It was the design team.
The Torch red car that I'm referring to was painted at the factory on June 25 2004 under the authorization of Joe Spielman and Wil Cooksey. It was then shipped to Detroit for evaluation of the Corvette Brand Team.
Engineering students from Kettering University were present at the evaluation along with select GM executives and when polled liked the Torch red. Both camps (Corvette design team vs. Corvette brand team and executives) made strong arguments. A comprimise was reached in the Victory red.
I LOVE the torch red. I've never really liked red cars, and I've always said, if I ever owned a red car it would be a Ferrari. But then I caught a glimpse of a Torch Red C5 and it was over. I cant stop drooling over this color. I'm actually thinking of buying a C5 in Torch Red, just to have the color. If the color was available in the C6, I would have bought it.

Not any more-
It was purchased by Dave Ressler...Remember him? He's the nice fellow that purchased the first available ZR1.
Thanks for the pics, talon90, and to all of those who have responded to my inquiry. From looking at those photos, I must say that the C6 looks outstanding in Torch Red. I guess that I'll just have to go without another new Corvette until the powers-that-be decide to offer one in this or a similar color.

What? Precision Red was the compromise reached and the first non-metallic red introduced on the 05 C6. It replaced Torch Red. PR was also featured in the classic video "A Boy's Dream" that introduced the C6. The pic is PR next to a VR with the only Pink C6 I know of in existance.

No. I am not talking about nor am I including C5's. Torch red was never a consideration for the launch of the C6. The design team did not want, like it. Precision Red was always the planned launch color. It was never a compromise color. The vocal previous owners and some of the folks at the factory lobbied for a brighter red. They wanted the torch red. That is where my post above picks up the story. Please read some of my earlier posts on Precision red. As you know, I own a Precision red coupe. My post was about how Victory red came to be on the C6 and why when a brighter red was called for it wasn't returned to Torch red.

This better explains how it all happened, especially for those that are not familiar with the early production of Precision Red nor your earlier posts. Your comment that, "The vocal previous owners and some of the folks at the factory lobbied for a brighter red" is true because PR was known at that time by insiders to be a short run color. Once PR's demise was announced, there were many, even on this forum that lobbied for the return of TR instead of VR as PR's replacement. Personally, all three look good on the C6. But I bet we can both agree we're both glad we have our PR's. Only a C7 will get me to part with it!
