First oil change when???
I agree with the above statement. GM knows these powertrains better than anyone and they warrant it based upon following the recommendations that the DIC provides us. No need to do any more than that.
So, with this car, I will do what the DIC tells me to, when the DIC tells me to do it.
Make sure the oil life monitor has NOT been inadvertantly reset.
Pay attention especially if your fussing with the timer function.
People have verified that resetting the timer can cause the oil life monitor to reset as well. So take note from time to time what the DIC says. Have a common sense number about when you should change your oil. Say 7000 or so. If your approaching that and your oil life monitor says 90% left. Well it got reset somehow.
And check your oil levels regularly. The DIC does not care about oil level.
