Default How to lock seat backs?

On my new 08 convertible I used the lever at the top of the seat back to pull the seat back forward. After moving the seat back forward, I couldn't get the seat back to lock in position again. There is about six inches of free play in the movement of the seat back. I then tried the other seat lever, and now both of the seat backs have this free play in them.

What's the secret to lock the seat back in position? I made sure the lever was all the way down, and I fiddled with the seat backs trying to get them to lock, but no luck. What am I missing?

There has always been free forward play in the backs of my Corvette seats. I'd say it is on the order of about 3" of travel. I consider this normal and don't recall a Corvette where the seat backs are "locked" in the back position.

I just measured mine (06 coupe) and mine has about 6" of play.

Try racing the car and slam on the brakes, the seat will flop front and back

It keeps the seat back from breaking when you move the seat all the way back against the divider between the front part of the cabin and the rear hatch area.
