Pay attention, Bond.... I posted the answer in the locked thread, but here it is again.
As described in the Euro Spec manual (which sadly doesn't seem to exist in PDF format) this button disables the alarm's "Intrusion Sensor" (not sure if it's ultrasonic or infrared) so that you can lock the car with the roof off or someone inside without the alarm triggering. What you need to do is hold the button in when you shut the engine off. Instead of the "Intrusion Sensor On" message you normally get on the DIC you'll see "Intrusion Sensor Off".
It's one of several differences in Euro Spec security, one of the others being that you can deadlock the doors by hitting the lock button on the fob twice within 5 seconds (being careful to time it just right to avoid the embarassing "look at me" of the horn sounding.... )
QED
I originally posted the question and the photo is mine. My 2006 owners manual has no reference to this button but your explaination sounds very correct. In what section of your manual was this explaination?
Since this is a Euro spec thing, I'm surprised that none of us has yet asked for Gene to try to find all the parts for this system so that we can all retrofit it to our US spec cars!!! It WOULD be so cool to have it...you know, whatever it actually does.

I think it's the baby seat sensor. Maybe it turns off the passenger side airbag if you have a baby seat in the car. I think that's the only one who would be seated backwards other than when my passenger is mooning the car next to us, lol.
I like all the guys posting their (wrong) answers after the question has been answered three times now and verified .....and let's see how many more will post their answers....
