A6 Software Upgrade
I went for a 'ride' last night after work- I know, not fun, but somebody's got to do it
. While I'm certainly not the expert here, and have limited time in the car and with the paddles, I'm sad to report I did NOT feel anything that resembled what I would call rev-matching during paddle downshifts. I was looking for a quick RPM rise to meet the expected RPM's of the lower gear, but didn't feel it. I can say both upshifts and downshifts felt quicker than before- especially at higher RPM's. If any of this is due to ultra-quick rev matching...????(I admit to not knowing how OBVIOUS it would be to detect) I know that, at lower speeds, the RPM rise seemed to develope AFTER the gear change during downshift. I'm going to drive an '08 to see the difference in what I'm experiencing.

This shouldn't be such a mystery. The dealers should be able to tell us what is available and what exactly will be affected on each model. I was hoping this was the '08 program and they just weren't making a lot of noise about it so as not to be decended upon by 1000's of A6's, but at least it is an improvement over where I was.
I'll post what they tell me.

After watching the C6 being introduced with an A4,, we all could not wait until the A6 came out. Most of us knew the shift points and RPM matching would need Real World testing and improvement.
After all, what do Engineers KNOW.
My RX 330 made in Japan,,, with a 5 speed transmission also downshifted poorly at first. Took a year to convince Lexus of the problem. They finally understood , reworked the shift points, and reflashed the computer memory. We went from 20MPG city to 19MPG city,, but oh was it Worth IT!
That little SUV now downshifted and matched Revs like the best of em.
I am sure GM was prepared to reflash the A6 via the software only to improve rev matching and downshift speed and smoothness. Evidently to find the "perfect" shift points takes time on all multi-speed modern Auto transmissions. Just my own personal experience.
Here is a CHART that GM posted in 2005.
