I've crossed the 10,000 mile mark with my car and shortly after doing so when I put my car into reverse there is a nasty grind to get it in.
My dealer says this is normal and how to stop it is (1) simply put it into first, then move it to reverse, or (2) hold the clutch down for roughly 15 seconds, or (3) start the car up with it in reverse.
I haven't had a grind going into reverse in the 10,000 miles I had the car. I had the notchy second gear... but this is a hard core grind.
Not normal for my '05. Granted I have the T-56 transmission but my car has never ground in first or reverse. I have over 19,000 miles on my car. I'll wait to hear what others have to say with newer model cars. My '05 must be parked in reverse so upon startup reverse is very easy. I still have never had any issues when having driven the car and then need to put it in to reverse.

He says this is normal... is he full of it?
I have frequently needed to double clutch to get into reverse since day one of my early '05. My '90 Miata also had that problem. Synchro problems are common to all manuals. If I were you I would experiment for a while with your tranny. Try double clutching or going into first gear before reverse, and see if you can find a smooth way in. And if you do, try and make it a habit. Because who would want to bring their car in have their tranny tore into if it can be avoided?
I'll have my tranny tore into if it isn't the norm. I have a warranty for just that reason, to fix things that aren't normal... even if they can be avoided.

Dealer says there is no reverse synchro and thats why. From what I've been reading on here the T-56 and I imagine my T-60 has a reverse synchro.
Thats Penske Chevy in King of Prussia, PA for you... IF anyone is interested in their knowledge.
I'm still waiting for more answers.
Well, your dealer is flat wrong on that point. The T-56 has a single synchro and the T-6060 has an improved dual synchro for reverse. The details of which can be seen here from last years 2008 introduction tech briefing by the design engineers.

I might too if the problem happened often enough, and I had a trusted repair dealer/person. But my experience has been this:
Bring it in to be checked. Parts ordered.
Bring it in. Wrong parts, or more parts needed.
Bring it in. Fixed. But the hood, console or seat has been cosmetically damaged. Order parts.
Bring it in. Fixed, but the battery is dead.
Maybe I should restate that my tranny doesn't grind going into reverse, it's simply feels blocked.

Called another dealer in my area. Thomas Oates Chevy in Chester Springs, PA.
They immediately said something was wrong, and it should never grind. They're going to get me a loaner car under warranty and get me in as soon as possible. Props to a good dealer.

That's good news. It sounds like you might have a little better luck with this service department.

Upon completion of good work from this dealer, don't forget to put their name and your experience with them in that thread, good dealer/bad dealer. Some actually look thru it altho it's gotten very large. Might also put it into regional for PA since more can find it that way.
Glad to hear your problem may be solved. Ordinarily, I would've said the same as hoonose in his
#5 post.
Apparently this dealership has certified corvette mechanics working there, not just the regular chevy mechanic. They also have like 10 vettes on their lot, including two new Z06s.
