Sure! Because I assume the cars will be well maintained while in Hertz's
stable and fixed, if necessary, under warranty. And, as with the purchase of any used vehicle, I would have the option of getting an independent inspection done before purchasing.
Having said all that, I remember when Hertz bought Shelby Mustangs (black w/gold racing stripes) to rent out. It was "65 0r '66 and I think Hertz had about 150 of the cars. That venture turned into a financial disaster for Hertz. The cars were often raced at the local drag strip, or road raced. Too often the Shelby Mustangs came back on a tow truck.
Hertz quickly got out of that venture! I wonder how long the Corvette experiment will last?
Raced? Heck, they were lucky to get them rental returned with the original engine.
In 2005 I was in Manhattan with my 2003 Coupe...I was riving down 5th ave when i saw a yellow Vert come up on the right...I lowered my window and yelled..."Hey, these cars arent ment for this city"...He smiled and yelled back..."It's a rental" and he floored it.....
If people do this in Manhattan with a rental vette imagine what they do on other roads....
No I wouldnt buy one unless I knew I could flip it and make money on it by selling it to some idiot who wants to pay extra for it because its a ZHZ Vette....and there are plenty of idiots out there so maybe....

Yeah...BUT...I believe I've seen some of these old Hertz Shelby's on Barrett-Jackson going for BIIIIGGGG MOney! So with that said...I'd probably buy one to put away...after I won the Lottery...of course!

They also came back with different, less powerful motors some times too.
I'd buy a used ZHZ.
For $500.

I've been around the potato patch long enough to know better than to say either yes or no to a question involving something way into the future. I'm interested but it would depend on a lot of things I'm not even prepared to think about today. I don't think the residual on these Hertz HZH cars will be close to what a normal used Corvette will be worth in 18 months so they may be somewhat of a bargain. An oddity at least.
A better question might be: Would you purchase one in 18 months for $25,000 to 28,000? The motor and transmission will likely be OK but the interior trashed and the tires worn and probable damage to wheels. They may actually be low mileage and I suspect the active handling will be hard wired on and the car inspected for damage upon return. Hertz knows how to rent high performance cars now and did not in 1965.
If you have the money and patience, buy it, have fun and 15 years from now restore. In 30 years it'll be worth $80K. Let's see, stock market normally doubles investment in 7 years (yes, today ain't normal); you do the math. I won't live long enough so I'm enjoying the 08 loaded 4LT I GM Exec car I just bought............ ...............
I have a 2009 ZHZ for sale. At a very reasonable price. It is in great condition. Also comes with a inspection. Well worth the 42 grand I want for it. It only has 60000km and is a power convertable.
I have never understood the special appeal of any of those rentals.
Seems to be just more advertising for them. I don't get it...
Also, everyone knows how people treat them.
