was at a friends birthday party tonight, and of course the topic on hand was cars. the whole time i was defending the corvette and all american cars for that matter...i mean the LS3 is a beast but it feels like the only respect given to these cars is for the Zo6. i got alot of
"lifes to sort to be ridin a chevy" and "yea if my car was all fiberglass it would do 0-60 that fast too"
Yeah, I hear it toooooo. I tell em....Talk is cheap. If you think so much about those cars....go out and BUY one. In the meantime, I'll cruise in my VERT....
You're right... it seems to me that every car-nut talks "Z06" but most people (guys, usually) who don't have a Corvette really don't know, and can't define, what a Z06 is or how it is any different from other C6Corvettes. And they haven't got a clue about Z51! So I like to tell them
"Ya, I got the Z51, and boy is it fast!" "Really!"they ask, "faster than a Z06?" "Well, what do you think?" I reply. "Isn't 51 a lot more than 06?"
I've even heard the old "I wouldn't buy one unless it was a Z06".
This, from a guy that can't even buy a sports car...period. I think he drives an old Escort. I just smile, knowing I'm fine with what I drive.
Just last night, on the way home, I told my wife how pleased I am with my Vette. Love these cars.
Everyone asks me if I got the Z__ (fill in the blank for the ignoramuses). I try to explain that the Z51 package is sufficient unless it's a dedicated track car. I lose their attention about 5 words in - they're either not interested in the answer, or have no clue what I'm talking about. SO WHY DID YOU ASK ME!?! Very annoying...
I don't think I've ever had anyone give me a hard time about what any of my 'Vettes; I did get the "why" question once, I just replied that I always wanted one.
Actually, up here in NASCAR territory .... where even toddlers crawl around with STP patches on their bibs .... I never get any negative reaction to my C6.
True, it's not the preferred vehicle of choice ... a pickup with oversized tires, dried mud, and glass packs ... but it's a very close second. Most people come right over and want to check out the car. "How fast does it go?" is the most common question.
So, no, I haven't gotten any negative comments at all about the Vette. I think most negative comments are from people who really are not into cars at all. They are basing their uninformed opinions on passed down stereotypes that they heard from others who know even less than they do. The only response to this nonsense is "Have you ever driven one?" The answer will always be no.
Chevy does a very poor job in advertising the Corvette's technology, BMW and Porsche do a very good job in advertising their tech, that's where some of it comes from, and jealousy.

anyone else see this?
Do any of them own one? probably not, so how can they evaluate a car, without owning it? pay no attention. Secretly they all want one.
Why do you care what other people think?
Do you drive a Corvette to show off?
I own a corvette because I like it and that's it.
That is the very best answer! Seems too many Vette owners, and also several forum members, only drive a Vette to impress others. I could care less what others think.
i had a friend say to me,"why buy a 66,000 dollar car, why didn't you put it into a business. i replied, " are you kidding me, im retired, and this is my reward for working all those years, im done working. he just looked at me, and said he had to go, to open up his liquor store, and work 75 hrs. a week. were the same age, 62, im not putting him down, but, oh well, you get the point.....
I never had anyone say any negative remarks about my Corvette, in fact the one thing that I always am amazed by is that everyone who see's it seems be very positve and up beat about it.
I've got a BMW as well and as much as I love that car, it doesn't have that same postive vibe with others ...
