I've been at all the ALMS races at Road America (worked as a volunteer the last two) and also attended some at Sebring and have to agree the 'Vettes racing each other has been getting a bit boring. Not really sure what the solution would be-they really don't want to revamp the whole car and go down a class to GT2 but they aren't really cars that would be P2 material either. (although given some leeway with mods could probably be somewhat competitive). It seems like LeMans is the real goal of Corvette Racing, and the ALMS races are simply becoming track tests for suspension setups, tires, mileage, etc. The fan base has been supportive in the past, but there really needs to be serious competition if that is to continue past this season. GM is in a tough position on this, no doubt, as you will have detractors no matter what you do-race or pull out. I would think it is kind of frustrating for the drivers being put in this situation also. A 1-2 finish at LeMans would help...
so the goal is to be competitive in one race, LeMans, a year?
Why doesn't Ford or Chrysler step up to the plate. Instead they just hang out in the Speed GT series and have trouble against a 4 door sedan (the CTS V).
Corvette Racing should not have to go overseas to race consistently. That would be extremely expensive just to live there. The European teams are glad to set up shop in other racing series but not against the Corvette. That alone says a lot how good Corvette Racing is. They already tried to make it as fair as possible against AM and Maserati.

I had it on TIVO, just watched the race, I don't know what race you guys watched, but the LMP1-LMP2 class was a battle, maybe you guys just focused on the GT1 Vettes, but there where all kinds fo contests in GT2 as well, Actually it was one of the better ALMS races in a while. I know you get to see more on tv, because of the cameras, and replays, but it was far from boring.

The goal is to sell cars. Apparently GM thinks that Le Mans is more important than ALMS toward that goal. But at least they do compete in ALMS, even if nobody else shows up for the GT1 class!

and this would be the same GM that lost 3.3 billion

I just said it wasn't the most exciting race, not that it was boring. I even mentioned their was some great battles elsewhere. You do miss out a lot being at the race though. I could tell someone went off because of the dirt cloud a mile away but you really can't tell who.
For Corvette Racing this was real time practice for LeMans. I wonder what they would do next year if they combine GT1 and GT2 next year though. Would they put a big restrictor on the Corvettes like they do to the Caddys in the Speed GT series, or maybe throw on some more ballast. I would like to see them tell the other teams to find more power.

Sorry I was refering to the OP he said it was boring...yes being at the track is fun but you miss out a lot on the action, unless is a track like Daytona or Homeasted, you can get up in the stands and see the whole track, and even then it gets confusing after the first round of pit stops. As far as classes they don't really know what to do, I think the GT2 Vette have to run a max of 5.0L. I'm going to look up the rules. I can't wait for LeMans.

The GT2 corvette has a choice of displacements, but per the ACO rules restrictor sizing is scaled with displacement and weight.
I believe LG opted to run a 6.0L LS3-variant as the car is homoligated based on a 2008 C6 coupe

The Le Mans race is currently the premier road race in the world. It is unbelievably hard to go 24 hours and win. Just to finish is an extraordinary accomplishment.
Too bad there is not more competition in the ALMS, the other manufacturers don't have the resources to compete due to the economy.
Chrysler doesn't have a program and Ford is even further behind.
if you notice there are very few if any ads for corvettes in any magazines or on TV because the corvette race team uses the corvette advertising budget to help fund the race team.
