Been that way for a couple of years. Corvette owns GT1. Occasionally ProDrive in the UK will field an Aston or a Ferrari, but typically it's a contest between the 3 and the 4.
Changes are in the air, tho - rumors include a new prototype division in 2010 with a mid-engine Corvette ...

No one wants to go against the C6Rs in that class, to powerfull, and reliable, only Aston Martin with the V12 has anything for the Vette, and is allways braking, this is what I tell all the Ferrari fan friends, if Ferrari is such a fenomenal super car how come it can't take on the Vette in GT1, they pick on the small displacement Porsches 3.6L. in GT2.

I was told at Sebring by the pit crew guys that their real intrest is the "24 heur LeMans", the AMLS is kind of a test and development for them, will see if it pays this year, as you saw in the race the Aston did not race today, probably getting ready for LeMans. I hope they kick azz again, I love it when they beat the arrogant Brits..
It is still entertaining to watch all the other racers out there and the mishaps on the track!! Like when the FERRARI hit LOU's car today and went into the sand while Lou just kept on going!!It's always good to see VETTES of any ilk in a race!!

the big wigs at GM voted down the new corvette for le mans. the corvettes will have competition in france
It wasn't the most exciting race for sure. I was even up in Corvette Corral on the SE corner. At least we got to do a parade lap, although we were unable to hit more then 50mph or so. Three of the drivers came over to sign autographs. The other classes was pretty interesting though the the Corvette team got some practice with different tire types. The Aston Martin even broke again.
It is sad that the C6R has no competition - the so-called "broke" Aston Martin really isn't much competition. To bad Ferrari, BMW, Saleen, Maserati, and Porsche won't field a GT1 car here in America, but then again why doesn't C6R take it to Europe to "practice" for LeMans where at least there are GT1's to race against. I suspect it GM is banking on Doug Fehan's statement that no one will remember that the last few C6R Companionship wins and Manufacture titles were uncontested. I hope not, it was the C5R/C6R fierce battles that sucked me in to looking at Corvettes for a personal car.
It was interesting watching LG's team. For it's first year to get 7th place in class, compared to those porsches and ferrari's who have been doing this level for years, is pretty impressive. Heck, they were even as high as 3rd or 4th place in class, but it looked like their tires gave out. Maybe a switch to michelin might help.
Lou G seemed to be on somebody's target list. Saw at least two cars bouncing off of him, a Ferrari in same class, and later a P1 or 2 car that clipped him hard. Poor Lou was just minding his line. The Ferrari knocked itself out of the race and the P1/2 car got a stop and go penalty for aggressive driving.

I have to laugh when the NCM sends out an email talking about another corvette victory how can you learn anything from your racing program if you only compete against yourself?

the corvette race team can do this or do private tests to get ready for le mans as they both cost money to do so why not test where the corvette fans get to see the corvettes run.
I've been at all the ALMS races at Road America (worked as a volunteer the last two) and also attended some at Sebring and have to agree the 'Vettes racing each other has been getting a bit boring. Not really sure what the solution would be-they really don't want to revamp the whole car and go down a class to GT2 but they aren't really cars that would be P2 material either. (although given some leeway with mods could probably be somewhat competitive). It seems like LeMans is the real goal of Corvette Racing, and the ALMS races are simply becoming track tests for suspension setups, tires, mileage, etc. The fan base has been supportive in the past, but there really needs to be serious competition if that is to continue past this season. GM is in a tough position on this, no doubt, as you will have detractors no matter what you do-race or pull out. I would think it is kind of frustrating for the drivers being put in this situation also. A 1-2 finish at LeMans would help...

They were testing different tire combos/pressures actually before heading to LeMans in France. You see, the foreign teams don't want to come to the U.S. to compete against C6Rs in GT1. Why do you think the C6Rs were carrying a 200lb. weight handicap against the Aston Martins? The "foreigners" [Aston Martin; Ferrari] will be at LeMans in France for sure. Hopefully, Corvette Racing will kick a$$. But, it does make for some dull racing when you're the only two cars in GT1 over here.
Congratulations to Lou and the rest of the LG Motorsports Team - 7th!!!!!!!!
