I have had some odd experiences since purchasing my Vette. Other performance cars don't even "try" me. They don't even throw a rev at me. When I had my Stangs, everyone was trying to get me to race, but not now. Not that I am complaining. I am totally against street racing, but figured I would get the same headaches that I did with my Mustangs. I have come across GTOs, Porsches, Ram Air T.A.s, and lots of modded Mustangs, but they all behaved. Not even the guys in their Civics have bothered me. They all eyeball my car, but none have challenged me. Is it that people have more respect for the Corvette?
The thing I notice so far are the number of folks that hang on my rear 3/4. They don't come up all the way, just hang there. I assume they're looking, because that's what I used to do from that position .

They all bow down to the King! Most have heard of/ about the Z06(which blows most cars off the road) and most don't know it from a regular C6... I've driven up to stop lights and had people ask if my car was a Z06? I tell them "No, they don't make the Z06 in a drop top." Then they just look confused as I drive away... Could explain some of the respect you speak of...?
Give it time, there are a ton of morons out there. Some actually want to try you and others just want to see what the Vette will do. That's obvious based on what they are in. It ain't worth it. A lot of times they'll ask how fast it will go and I just tell them it'll do the speed limit.
I still get the Ricer now and then revving it up and putting on a show but normally people tend to check out the Vette and are in the know as far as what the Vette can do.
Maybe not so much as calling it respect, but rather an appreciation for Americas true sportscar. I have as much appreciation for the guy next to me in his new or modified Mustang as I do for my car. True car guys appreciate the cars. The Mustangs, the Chargers, some of the Hondas and Mercedes are all pretty damn cool cars.

Maybe more people are just wising-up and taking their need for speed to a track. Street racing is dangerous and the penalites can be downright severe. I seem to get challenged somewhat frequently but my car sounds a bit 'heavy' and my license plate reads "2 QWIK." It kinda comes with the territory.
It's true...most people couldn't tell a C6 from a Z06 if you parked them side by side. Know as well there are all kinds of very fast cars out there...many you would never suspect are extremely fast.
Don't feel bad....your time will come and when it does...let it go.
I don't pay attention to idiots that want to race on the street.
Ditto, it's just a matter of time, some butt head will give you a thunderous rev, or churp their tires, so much for respect, keep a cool head, and Ignore them, keep rolling and enjoying your car, Salt
I've had several high HP cars including a 600 RWHP Cobra and of all the Vettes I encountered only 1 challenged me. IT was a c5 zo6 and he got his a$$ handed to him on the highway, multiple times...I guess he couldn't belive it, so he kept trying.
Anyway, the point is, most Vette owners are a tad bit older and on average, much more mature and responsible. When I was a younger man, running around town in my Mustangs, I simply knew not to mess with Vettes because they usually didn't want to "play". I assumed, and still do, that most people that can afford vettes aren't going to take the risks associated with street racing. (Which is a good thing)
Now that I'm a Vette owner (C6 Z51) I've noticed the same thing....ricers, Mustangs and Camaro's simply don't try to play the street race game with me....and I assume it's for the reasons stated above.
I have had a couple people try to instigate a race. Mostly bikes.
One thing I did notice switching from a ricer (rx8) to a vette is that other drivers are a lot more courteous. On one occasion while waiting for traffic to clear to make a left turn an oncoming car stopped and waved me through. With the rx8 the only wave I might have gotten uses only 1 finger.
The only challange I've had was ironically on the way to the Bash this year. Not long after I left Nashville headed up to Bowling Green I caught up to a Mustang while just cruising along around 73 mph.
This guy just started in running up to me and dropping back. Then he got behind a couple of trucks after he went on ahead and I caught up with him again and he started his taunting up again. This guy just wouldn't quit. He hung around me and pulled this stuff for 20 or 30 minutes.
Finally my wife answered a call on her phone and he must of thought we were calling the troopers cause that's when he finally went on ahead to never fall back again. I was really glad to get some distance from him cause he was starting to make me a bit nervous.
If I hadn't already been on the road for while and ready to get into town, I would have backed down to 70 or so to get rid of him quicker.
