I'd say no to gold. For some reason this is popular with some Japanese cars (I have a Subaru WRX) but I can't explain the attraction. There are much better color schemes available. Just my $0.02.
Gold isn't for everyone and you'll find a lot of haters here. If you are photoshop challenged here is a suggestion. When I want to see what a car would look like I load up a racing game on the computer (typically Need for Speed: Most Wanted) and select the car and wheel color choice. I haven't tried gold wheels on a black corvette but I can say on a white car (corvette, carrera gt, etc.) it looks great. At least on the computer.
Long before Japanese cars painted wheels gold, certain well known "furrin" and domestic race cars had them. I have always liked the look on the right color car.
