Had something fly up from another vehicle and hit me in the windshield. It put a hole in it and took a gash out of the halo. I'll need a new windshield and I guess the halo can be repaired. The gash looks like white bird shyt. That is what I initially thought it was. It is about 1/16" - 1/8" deep. If it can be fixed and look PERFECT then cool, i'm down for a repair.
I probably will not claim this under insurance so it will all be out of pocket. Deductible is low but you know how these things have a tendency to bite you in the *** later.
I agree re insurance, but if that's a HUD windshield be prepared for the cost. Not cheap, supposedly. That must have been one helluva rock (something?) that hit you!
you'll probably need a new windsheild....if you have glass I would claim it as there is usually not a deductible when it comes to those claims and a new windsheild is expensive....your insurance should not go up for a glass claim....the halo is prob an easy fix...
Something similar happen to me after only three months ownership. My insurance covered it completely. I have HUD and was completely satisfied with the job. No increase on my policy. That was over three years ago. I was really bumped out at first and feelings came back when I saw your pictures. I would call my insurance.
Yeah, it is a non-HUD windshield. That is good information to know, I was wondering if it would be comp or coll....I carry an extremely low comp deductible so this is definitely good news.
BTW, I went back and looked to see wtf it was that hit me and it was the pneumatic hinge from something like a hatchback. It was just like out of a freaking movie....when the thing got kicked up, it twirled in 'slow motion'. I actually saw the impact. I had the presence of mind to get the other car's license plate although the LEO that responded said it wouldn't do me any good unless it physically came off that vehicle. I couldn't lie so I told him it didn't.
It happened in such a short span of time, had I swerved to miss it (and we know these cars can handle), I would have taken out the car in the right lane. Had I braked (and we know these beasts can stop on a dime), the driver behind me would have rearended me since I highly doubt that he could have stopped with me.
Anyway, it happens....it was my turn so now I'll get it fixed and keep it moving. I checked and the Halo is only $259. I am assuming that that will be unpainted though.
Sorry to hear about your luck. Had a similar thing happen to me. I had just bought a new 99 Ram Air Trans Am. My wife and I were headed for Tennessee in it when in Covington Ky. on I75 during morning rush hour a stake bed truck with no license plate got on the highway in front of me. Due to traffic I couldn't move over. Something flew off the back of the truck and hit the headlight cover and the lip of the hood. That old truck then got off the highway and due to traffic I couldn't get off. I was bad as heck but there was nothing I could do about it except get it repaired. The body shop foreman at Walker Pontiac told me I was lucky it hit the lip of the hood other wise what ever it was would gone through the windshield.
I'm sorry about the damage to your car...fortunately it wasn't worse. Replacing the glass isn't a big deal and the small scratch should be easy enough to fix. .
It always pays to carrry full glass coverage on your auto insurance. The extra $10 or so premium makes it a no-deductible windshield replacement. Good luck!

Thanks for the info!

You have a great attitude about all of this and I am sure that will serve you well as you set about getting it fixed (and it CAN be easily fixed...).
Comprehensive should cover it and it will not be held against you. That has happened to me on several occassions on a number of my cars. Once a tree branch fell out of the sky on a tree shaded street in Atlanta and cracked the F-250s windshield. Two summers ago in Yellowstone with all the road construction there, a flying rock cracked the windshield and another big rock hit and dented the driver door real good. All instances the damage was covered under the comprehensive coverage of my policy and since I had no deductible for comprehensive the entire cost was covered by my policy. If I was you I'd call my agent and ask him to verify the policy of the company that holds the policy.

Went ahead and filed a claim. They said it would fall under comprehensive. I priced the windshield and halo at $387 & $259 respectively. The catch is $650 later I'd still have to have it installed and the halo would probably have to be painted. Called local glass companies and Safelite....turns out that with labor and tax, I'm looking at anywhere from $820 - $1,075 just for the windshield.
Another question I am entertaining is having them replace it with the HUD windshield. I don't have HUD on the car and I am not sure how expensive/intensive that mod would be for my 1LT but I definitely want that stand alone option. I'll have to search on here to see if I find any information on that topic.
Sorry to hear about the damage to your car. One week ago I was traveling down a residential road and a truck was a head of me with an awkward load of some building or something they were hauling the material away and I just felt uneasy, I backed off and sure enough an eight foot of plywood came flying off. I managed to swerve to the right and about that time another piece came flying off. It is realy tough trying to keep your car from getting dinged in this heavily traffic world. Good Luck on your repairs!
