Default Tire sensor question

I have an a chance to pick up some aftermarket wheels that a friend of mine had on his C6 for only about a month before he decided to sell his car.

The wheels are from WCC and are the 18"/19" chrome versions of the 08 split spokes. They had new sensors installed when mounted and before he sold the car he removed the new wheels and installed the tires back on the stock wheels.

I am thinking of buying these wheels, which I can get for a really good price, getting new tires (probably Firestone Wide Oval RFT's), and mounting them on my 02 C5 Coupe.

My question is whether the C6 sensors that are already installed on the wheels will work on my C5 or will I need to get C5 sensors in order for the sensors to communicate with the computer properly?

The C6 sensors are exclusive to the C6 and as such you will need to get C5 sensors for your car.

Thank you for the quick reply.

Since the C6 sensors won't work I will be getting new C5 sensors because the ones I have now are 6 1/2 years old and I'm not sure what the battery life is on the sensors but I'm sure they are near their limit.

Can I assume that the C5 sensors will mount on the C6 wheels without any problems?

Good plan to get the new sensors. The batteries are likely nearing the end of their useful life. You should have no problems mounting the sensors on the tires.

From what I understand the sensor unit is sealed and would require surgery to get it open. I think a few have attempted it successfully but I will just bite the bullet for new ones.

C6 sensors have a list price from your dealer of about $90 each.

From forum vendors such as Gene Culley ( http://gmpartshouse.com ), Bob's House of Wheels, Fichtner, etc., they are about $50 each.

You can often find a set of 4 used ones available for about $150 here on the forum.

interesting thread...had no idea they had batteries in..............what is the average life of these sensors? Recently had stock sensors removed and placed into a 360 forged setup and three out of the 4 replaced were found to be faulty, why would this be, unless they weren't installed correctly in the first place? Taking it back in again tomorrow as losing 5-6 lbs daily on a rear wheel(20"). I know it's not a flat as I fill her up to 30/31 cold and ride her around for 15 minutes and the PSI goes up, as it should do, but leave her overnight and she will show around 25? Yesterday the readout said 25lbs and I checked this with a handheld tire-pressure meter(which is very accurate) and it agreed, then filled her up with air to 31, yet it took the computer readout a good 5 minutes to register 31?

Something seems odd if 3 of 4 previously working C6 sensors now don't work. Are you sure each TPS registered correctly (with the car's computer) using a TPMS tool once they were installed and mounted on the car?

It may have taken long for the sensors to show the current (new) tire pressure because I believe they only transmit once you're going over 15 mph or maybe once a minute if you're not moving.

Most of the time this can be attributed to faulty installation of the o rings where the sensor and valve stem contacts the wheel. If they aren't installed carefully you can get a leak. That's what I'd have them check.
