Default Test drove a C6

I test drove a base '08 C6 stick last Wednesday and I can confidently say the experience has turned me into a staunch believer. I drive a Honda S2000 now and the C6 felt like my S on steroids!

I am sure most of you might disagree on drawing a comparison between the two but for the longest time I believed there was nothing more fun to drive than my S and was never going to part with it until I drove the C6.

Now it is only a matter of time before I find the right one. I love the black with gun metal wheels and the heads-up display is awesome that shows the g-force reading. I am debating on getting a '08 or a '05 with low miles??

Any advice you folks can give me on getting into my first vette would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I test drove an S2000 before I bought my 06 Vert. The Honda was a blast to drive. Shifting was especially sweet. It was a very nice sports car.

The Vette is all of that except, it is more like a race car...

Go for the later model year C6's.

In your post you don't mention if you drove an automatic or a 6-speed. Drive the 6-speed if you haven't already, and I'll bet thats what you'll buy!

I've driven the S2000 also. I found it was a lot of fun to drive, but I needed to keep the rpms high in order to have any power. The C6 doesn't have that problem.

The only problem I had with my c6 was the roof panel recall and the clunky noise that was coming from the diff. Both were fixed one shot at my dealer. I have had 3 late model vettes and they have been relatively free of problems however I never kept one passed 40k mi and I would not expect the C6 to be as durable or more reliable then the S2000. The S2000 is one if not the only sport cars I have seen consistentaly rated reliable.

You might consider an 08 or 09 since they have the ls3 that has 430 hp. As peter pan mentioned, you can get some great deals on a new 08. Good luck with your search.

the biggest difference between 2008 and earlier models is the steering and the extra 30-36 hp. if you drove a 2008 then you might not be happy with the older steering setup...

Get the LS3...
A buddy of mine has an S2000 that he got by trading his '05 C-6 (for monetary reasons). While he likes the S2000, he says there's absolutely no comparison - he misses the Vette immensely. When the lease on the Honda is up, he's getting another Vette.

Area all small cars 'fun' to drive? It seems that way.

I can assure you my 07 turns just fine, and it feels great. I don't doubt the incremental improvement.

Also, don't forget, you get the option of Gumby wheels on the 08 which I personally don't care for.

But the bigger improvement is the center bezel which is no longer looking like an unfinished piece of plastic as in my 07, and the option of factory leather trim for the doors, dash, etc.

As much fun as that C6 was to drive, if you can drive one with Headers and a decent exhaust, I guarantee you it will be at least 235% MORE fun.
Honestly!! I am getting gas about every 2-3 days. NOT because the car is bad on gas, actually it GREAT on gas for a 6 liter engine, but after putting the headers, its WAYY too much fun to drive, and I take the long way home almost every time I go out.

You cannot go wrong whichever year you buy, but the 08 would be the best bet, updated steering, LS3 engine, lil better interior, etc. I also recommend getting the Z51 package, great deal for what you get with it.

But one of the best parts about driving a vette is the instant commaraderie you will now share with every vette owner.

And always remember to Wave!

Two words of advice when buying a Corvette:

1. Buy the newest vette you can afford
2. Torque is your friend

Good luck and welcome aboard.

The 08 Vettes got significantly improved shifting and steering feel, so go with that year if you can afford it. There are deals up to $10K off on 08s right now! The local Boardwalk Chevy, a Forum vendor, has some great deals worth looking at.
