Default Running without the neck waddle?

Hi,
I'm so fed-up with the front spoiler rubbing on every speed bump and entrance ramp like some kind of slammed fart-piped Chevy Civic, has anyone just ripped the darned thing off for good?
Yes I know that I'll risk experiencing liftoff at over 300MPH, or some kind of overheating induced cosmic fission event, but has anyone here just chucked their goatee and lived to tell the tale?

Adjust the lowering bolts up for a starter and see if it gives you more clearance.

It rubs on excessively large speed bumps and way too steep driveways. So what? Is that gonna de-magnitize your charma and cause all h*ll to break loose? Of course you could wack it off but it's there to improve cooling at speeds way less than 300. I've learned over the years not to monkey with things for no good reason because monkey I have. Or you could jack it up and mess with the suspension geometry and handling not to mention appearance all to avoid a scraping noise?

Seems a bit excessive to me.

On my too steep driveway at home I get a bit of scrape in and out. It's just plastic it'll live. I blame the driveway not the car.

Overheating is the likely possible result. The spoiler directs a breeze into the engine bay. It may seem like it's not needed, but it is...

Remove it and add it to your "Mod Completed" List

Kind of like Removing Chiclets

Without the front air dam, your car will go airborne at speeds over 200mph, so be careful.

I would not take it off. It is used to assist in engine/brake cooling.

If the scraping is that much of a bother, just trim the bottom of the two hard plastic end pieces.

It doesn't take that much. I've been airborne in a Camaro with no spoiler at less than 100. It's something like going 100 and suddenly the steering wheel has been disconnected and you see a lot more hood than usual. I'd much rather hear scraping occasionally.

Have you tried approaching/topping these things slowly at a 45 degree angle? It's not always possible, but if you can, it usually won't scrape. If you have F55, putting it in "Sport" might help a little bit.

The air dam on a C6 is a designed part of the cooling system, it causes negative pressure behind the radiator to assist in pulling air thru the radiator instead of under the car. Might not make a difference on a low mileage car since the cooling system is 100% but it will make a difference under extreme conditions or extended mileage.

It's a cheap replacement part, let it scrape.

These diagrams and ordering info from GMPartsHouse.com (Gene Culley) will help if you ever need to replace these parts:

Darting across into oncoming traffic to get across a speed bump? Driving slowly? Please, why do you even own a Corvette?

To the original poster, rip the damn thing off. Your car will NOT overheat because you removed the air dam. I can't say what it'll do at 186 MPH without the spoiler, but I haven't noted any "floaty" feeling at 145 MPH. If you routinely shoot for land speed records, you might want to keep it, otherwise, take it off and enjoy less scraping on normal roads at normal speeds.
