Default HUD Question

Hey all!

My 'Vette was a 2LT package, and as such didn't come with the HUD. I was wondering if anybody here has had a HUD unit put in, of if it is even possible to get one non-factory installed.

Do I need it? Not at all, but I did test drive a 3LT before I got my car, and i thought it was a pretty cool option. Was just wondering if one could be purchased and installed.

Thanks all!

Replace the car with one that has the HUD option. The amount of labor involved and not knowing if will it work should be incentive enough.

I just bought a HUD projector and remaining pieces from members off the forum to go into my 07 2LT. Not sure yet when I'll get the time to install it but I will try and take lots of pictures along the way documenting the procedure of the install for those who'd like to do the same.

It is possible to do, but make sure you have a lot of time and patience because it is time consuming. Good luck.

The HUD is awesome. You'll never regret doing. Everybody should know how many "Gs" there pulling. LOL

If you do a search here, you'll run across a couple of forum members who do complete kits for a HUD retrofit, including projector, wiriing harness, and instructions. I've seen members report picking these up for $800-900. There was one such kit for sale in the classifieds recently for $750. Most people that do the retrofit say that it takes an afternoon, and while it looks like a ton of work because the dash is dismantled, it's really not that bad, as long as you know how to turn a wrench. I researched this pretty heavily before I bought; the relative ease of the retrofit is one of the reasons I went with a 2LT vs. a 3LT, since that was pretty much the only feature of the 3LT that I could see myself using. I couldn't justify the price jump between the two option packages for one additional useful (to me) feature.

Obviously, you can ignore those who advise you to get another car. They have no experience with the retrofit, and are probably the same people who pay someone else to do every little thing to their own ride because they don't know how to. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Good luck, have fun, and if you do it, take lots of pictures!

I believe the windshield is different, too. Not sure how much difference that makes.

That's exactly why I didn't go for a 3LT. I didn't want or need all the other options, but that HUD was pretty friggin cool, lol.

Thanks again mate, appreciate the informative post!

Not much of any, except in the brightest of sunlight, according to people who have done it. Works just fine on the stock, non-HUD windshield

I've heard that the difference is mainly for bright sunlight conditions.
At first I didn't think the HUD was that functional but now when I'm driving another car I still tend to look for the HUD for info, especially my speed.

Forget what all these naysayers have said. I saved myself $4000 going with the 2LT. I bought Dennis Denzin HUD package for $700. I used 10 hours of my time. I am mechanically stupid and the thing works. Do it! The satisfaction is worth it and even if you get stuck, you have plenty of people that can help. Do a search as there are many other folks that have helpful hints like you don't have to remove the steering wheels and airbag...I didn't. I would have documented it but I was too excited to get it done and drive the car. Email me if you need help or I will send you my number in case you get stuck...if I can remember what I did. Having the shop manuals would help...I did not have them just the instructions that came with Dennis' kit.
