renew onstar?
My onstar is up in a couple of days, the trial thing for the first year. I'm not really seeing the value in renewing, maybe I'm missing something. I can push the button if I need roadside assistance, the one time I needed this, the battery was dead so I had to use my cell phone. I can get diagnostics(whoopie) they couldn't even get that to email to me for 7 months of the term. And I can push the Red button if I get in an accident. (this feature I think is worthwhile) along with being able to find my car if its stolen.
But 20 bucks a month for this???? My XM radio is like 8 bucks a month including tax.

We all want all of our toys in the C6 to work... I just dont see a use yet for On-star
Hopefully you have insurance. If you never use it, is it useless?
The continued tirades over Onstar and XM are stupid. Either get it or not.
actually this post is useless, we are trying to determine why we would need it. Insurance you need if you have an accident. I'm not seeing the point of onstar.
Comparing OnStar to insurance is kind of rediculous don't you think? Insurance is not optional. Everyone has cell phones and a lot have nav, so what advantage does OnStar have?
This is from someone who never signed up for On-Star (my car was purchased after the 12 month intro). I considered signing up many times. I got online an researched what the costs were etc and for a guy who loves gadgets and toys, I just couldn't justify the cost. The only feature I saw that I would possibly sign up for was the in car phone but I'm on AT&T and not Verizon, otherwise I probably would have added that to my plan.
Anyway, My Vette has GPS so turn by turn would be a waste of money. Diagnostic, the Vette lets me know if something major is wrong and regular servicing takes care of everything else. Car theft locator, if it gets stolen, I'd rather it gets written off than have to deal with a returned car that had been screwed up by the thief.
Maybe accident assist would be handy if I crashed and couldn't help myself but if I could I have a phone and unless I'm out in the middle of the middle of the country, I'm sure the fact that my busted up car is blocking traffic may alert someone that something is wrong.
Half the other stuff I'd probably note use, I mean I haven't had a requirement for any of it over the past year (touch wood).
Anyway, that's my 2 cents worth. All I'm saying is look at each option and see if you have a free solution to each of them already and if in the past year you have required some of what they offer and is it worth the money that you will pay for it, then go for it.

OnStar will renew for $149.00. I just renewed the basic 'safe and sound' plan. I told them I know they're renewing for $149.00 so that's all I'll pay...they didn't argue. They also rolled-over what remaining phone minutes I had.
Some of the OnStar features I could care less about (and don't subscribe to) but I do value the built-in, more powerful, hands-free telephone (invaluable with a manual shift), emergency notification and the GPS positioning could be helpful if your car is ever stolen.
For the pennies a day it costs it's worthwhile to me.

I didn't compare insurance to Onstar.
Hmm, maybe that's why I carry insurance for people who don't have it? There are many people here who think its "optional".
I didn't say it did. I merely was asking how you had determined it was useless if you'd never had it nor ever used it.
I think it has benefits that balance the cost. Being past the age of puberty I can also decide whether I want to pay for it or not on my own.

I thought it was useless until I got in a car wreck. I was pretty shaken up and was not thinking straight. I just pushed a botton and the next thing I know the police were on the way. The phone is cool too
