Default AirRaid Kudo's

Installed the AiRaid Air Intake this am on my LS3 coup. Purchased from Josh at RPI. Took about an hour's time. Hardest part was getting the filter over the intake housing. Opted for the wife's hair driver and that was the ticket to get it on easily. It's really supersized compared to the stock filter.

Also, Kudo's to this forumn, cause my power windows stopped indexing after I had the battery disconnected during the install. Just did a quick search and found a thread faster than pulling out the owners manual.

Driving impression It delivers even with Fla. 91+ temp and high humidity. It pulls stronger, and the exhaust is much deeper. I'm looking forward to a dyno at Rev Xtreme to see what is getting to the rear wheels. The LS3 motor seems to respond well to even small mods. I love this Vette.

I got the GM Corvette red letter inserts for the passengers side area, and again the wife's hair dryer cam in handy again.

Went to a wedding after lunch, and several folks liked the red letters against the ebony interior. Of course got a lot of compliments on the VY exterior color too.

Thanks, Dewman

Thanks for the review. I'll keep this intake in mind when I start modding.

I had a Airaid Intake on my newer Grand Cherokee Hemi. Very nice kit its just it hasnt become popular for the vettes yet. I will say though from the pics it looks like one of the better quality intakes for the C6 and one of the least expensive. I had a vararam and got rid of it because very poor quality. Next intake may very well be the Airaid

Is this a true cold air intake? Did you have to cut the shroud so that it could pull from the cold air by the radiator? If not, I would suggest people look at either the Vortex Rammer, VaraRam, or Callway Honker as they're all true CAI's.

The Airaid is NOT a true cold air intake. Its similar for example to the Blackwing. The true ramairs certainly functional well but if the car is a daily driver that can be an issue for some. I have had the vararam and it for sure functions well but quality was lacking BIG TIME. Especially considering how expensive it is.

All you have to do is prop the shroud open and the big open-element filters can get plenty of cool air

Yeah, that's what I've heard from alot of people with the VaraRam. I went the Vortex Rammer route and the quality is second to none (haven't seen the callaway honker in person yet though). And with their design, the engine bay is 100% sealed off from the air coming into the shroud therefore it doesn't get dirty and there's no way for dirt to get past the filter like on the older VaraRams (I'm told they updated their foam that held the filter in place, but I'm not sure why they ever used a foam weatherstripping for that in the first place).

Airaid here. Very good quality, easy to install without having to cut the baffle (shroud). My 50-100 mph log improved .343 seconds. Moving at freeway speeds my IAT goes down to ambient. Can't get any cooler than that.

I've read your posts and found your data very useful. Have you done any more testing lately to "confirm" your initial results?

This may be a dead horse, but I just want to make a quick point. Filtration is 3rd only to oil and coolant. Dirt being sucked into a chamber can very quickly ruin an engine. I totally destroyed my old 88 Trans Am GTA by driving for months with a completely disconnected intake filter. Silicone (dirt) will grind your pistons, cylinder walls, bearings, etc into a pulp.
I have seen many used oil analysis where dirt has shown its destructive power. If you have a system you suspect isn't sealing well, I highly recommend an oil analysis...$30 now can save you thousands later.

From the looks of it and in my opinion, systems such as Airaid, K&N, Blackwing and those of similar design offer the most reliability. The bigger the sealing surface, the bigger the chance of a leak. Filtration should always be the #1 priority.

+1

An intake is something not to be taken lightly. A good example from the 350z community is the Greddy twin turbo set-up. Many people bought these kits that include dual intakes with dual filters. The filters were/are garbage and quickly became known as the mushroom of death.

This is why I have yet to decide on an intake for my DD 08 vette.

Hmm, maybe something caught up with them as the company went bankrupt this month.

Thanks! Have not done any more follow up testing. However, no reason to believe my original testing isn't correct.
