Default 36K Service

My local dealership keeps sending me prompts that it is time for my 36K service. Is there really anything that I NEED to have them do? They always seem to want to do "everything plus anything else" and charge me mucho-dinero. I tend to stay away from them. I do have about 38K on the beast and have an extended warranty. Whaddaya think? What a car! What a country!

Could change the diff fluid. Change your filters, like cabin filter, if never changed, also can clean the throttle body, not much else. Car will give you a message when something fails.

Haven't looked at your owner's manual yet? Try page 6-6 of the 2005 owner's manual. Additional maintenance is required at 25K, 50K, 75K, etc..

Ask your dealer to show you where in the manual that it says extra service is required at 36K.

I had mine at the dealer at around 25,000 for the differential fluid change and asked them to just give things a visual check since I was leaving on a road trip (and I knew that's what the manual recommended...I change my own oil, filters, etc.). They said 'no need' but a service was due at 30,000 miles. Just for kicks I asked them for an estimate of the charges if they did the service. It turned out to be around $600.

I must have looked a little gullible that day.

It definitely pays to read and heed your owner's manual.

Assuming you change your oil as recommended - no issues there. The only thing that might be warranted is to have them change the differential fluid, (the friction modifier should be replaced) unless you can do that yourself. Change your air filter yourself and that's all you need.

Maybe at about 50K you could have the tranny fluid changed (it it's an auto), spark plugs replaced, and coolant flushed. Admittedly, even that would be overkill, but that's what I would do.

Bottom line, you don't need to give them a bunch of money just because it's got 36K on the clock.

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all of your comments. Every time I go to any dealer I feel like Diogenes seeking an honest man (and not finding one). Thank goodness for the Forum members. It's a glorious day here in WDC so I'm off to put more miles on this wonderful car. What a car! What a country!

The radiator fluid is really hard for me to accept at 150,000 miles.
