The purpose of removing the battery is not to preserve the battery's life... it is so that the car doesn't 'see' the 'emergency' fob that you've hidden in the car, and allow starting or unlocking 24/7, whether you are there or not.

I understood that, but my point was that the spare battery will take care of always having a functional FOB assuming you don't lose it. This way all you should need is maybe a spare key if the concern is getting into the car if you get locked out.

I carry a MAG-Lite in one of my cubbies and can't remember the last time I lost a key. Anyway, that's just my suggestion for those looking for an alternate backup plan that doesn't require a spare FOB. I'm sure some folks will feel more secure knowing they have a complete FOB stashed away for a spare, but I don't think that would be necessary for my own purposes.
Why do you need to hide a key. Have a new key made. Grind off the black plastic end and put it in a wallet key sleve and in your wallet. That way it is always with you.
That's what I did. If you really want to hide a key anywhere buy a plastic key holder and then get yourself some 3M VHB tape and you can stick that baby anywhere.
