The key would get you into your car should there be a failure of the fob to open the doors or hatch.
When I drive the Vette I carry the fob, my house key and the Corvette key in the left front pocket of my jeans. It's not a problem to carry.
But if the OP had to ask the question, he probably doesn't know that he would put the key in the keyhole above the rear license plate to open the hatch.

...and he may not know to pull the little cable to open the door.
In addition to all of that I use the key to lock/unlock my glove compartment. When I have the top off and I go in a store or something(quick stops) I throw my ipod in there. I know it isn't going to stop a determined person etc but it keeps a lazy thief from grabbing the first thing they see and running off.

And the most common cause is a dead battery. So in a regular car, you just open up the car and then grab your cables and get a jump, but with just the fob and a dead Corvette, you can't get into the car to open the hood and jump it. Thats why you have the key around, whether on your keychain, in your wallet, or hidden on the car.
Lots of people on here that never carry the key find out how important the key can be when the battery goes dead and locked, or for some computer burp will not recognize the fob.
That is usually followed by a cry for help because their locked out of the car. There is NO GOOD REASON not carry the key!
Carry the key and fob together in your pocket, save a lot of grief in the long run.

I didn't think about that either. The key wasn't intergrated into the fob until the 08's. Couldn't you just put it on the same key ring as the fob? Maybe I need to see what the fob/key looks like on the 07's, you have to forgive me this is my first Vette.

The 2008 fob is pretty massive. I didn't realize how big it was until I rented and STS (has the same setup). It's almost as big as a cell phone. I just keep my key hidden in my wallet
My key is hidden under the C6. In 39 months I have not needed it but if required it's there. My key ring has the fob and house key. A spare fob is hidden in the car (batteries removed) and I've never needed it either.
