Guys, please don't make me put a remote start in my car... LOL
This is not true, they make a clear thingie, I'm not exactly sure what it's called but... you place it in between the remote battery and the actual contacts. When the alarm gives it a "connect" the battery will make full contact and the car now sees a remote in the car and it's allowed to start.
With that, Someone will NOT be able to start the car just by pressing the start button BUT if you don't hide the key in a good spot they can find it and steal your car.
I thought about that, a couple questions:
1) At what point does the Remote Start turn *off* the hidden fob?
2) With the setup you describe, you have to either carry TWO remotes (the factory *and* the remote start), or you have to *always* use the "start" button on the aftermarket remote, even if you are sitting in the drivers seat you couldn't just press the start button on the dash (unless the aftermarket remote can be 'programmed' by the C6's security system as a legitimate, authorized fob). I haven't heard of anyone making a fob that can fully emulate a factory fob and be authorized by the C6's security system, but its possible they are out there.
[QUOTE]I owned a 2006 STS-V for about a year, and it had pretty much the same system as the Corvette and it had a remote start. Maybe the Vette may be a little different I don't know.
I got me a used CTS fob & programed it as #3 fob...
for my 2005, everything work.....

Interesting. Yeah, the CTS, STS & DTS I've driven seemed to have the same system as the Corvette with push button start, etc. and they all had remote start.

I was not very clear about what the installer wanted to do. I am never going that path. But my understaing is he wanted the original keyfob in the car so all factory security is by-passed and then add his own security for openning doors, remote start, and engine immobilizer.
I hope GM comes out with a remote start option for our cars.
The installer needs to use a 1101T bypass, it will take your fob and activate it for a short time when you send a remote start signal. The problem will be that you will need to carry 2 remotes, the OEM Fob to drive the car + Remote Start Fob, if you ever want to not start your car with the Remote Start Fob.
$350 would be worth it to me. Now if I only I could find a place to go in Austin where they're smart enough to do it right and not screw something up.
Find places that work on higher end cars, call up a local exotic dealership. Mind you, the $350 is for a remote start w/ simple keyless, it will be more if you get a full blown alarm system.
This is something I am considering doing myself as well ... just not sure if it is needed in a summer only car.
