Default Remote Start?

Anyone installed remote start on their Vette? I miss it from the Dodge Ram I had. It was nice having that as a factory option. My car sits right outside my window at work and after baking in the Texas sun it would be nice to climb into a cool vehicle instead of a hot one. I'm looking for vendor and price info?

I miss it too. Lets hear.
On my 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe dealer gave me 2 new key fobs that had the start engine button, and they reprogrammed the car. Cost about $200 and 1 hour.

I was told it's not an option on the Vette... So it's offered on trucks, tahoes, and caddies, but not Vettes? WTF?

Don't have one on either of my vettes, used to have one on previous vehicle. Installed it to start car when sitting out in freezing Canadian winters.. nice and comfy to get into.. then when moved to AZ, used it to cool the car down.. WONDERFUL thing to have.. might consider getting one installed on the 08 as that is the one that sits out in the sun at work.. will keep my eye on this thread..

remote start was something I really wanted for my car too and I was told in another thread awhile back by many people that it can not be done.....at all. I don't know why but hopefully someone will be able to answer on this thread as to why it can't be done.... I'm watching too

I was told it would defeat the security feature of the FOB needing to be in the vehicle for it to start, therefore it is not an option.

I owned a 2006 STS-V for about a year, and it had pretty much the same system as the Corvette and it had a remote start. Maybe the Vette may be a little different I don't know.

I used to be in the car audio/electronics business and don't have personal experience with installing remote start in a C6 but I can tell you one thing I would NEVER consider installing one in a C6 for someone. No way not with all those electronics. And I have no idea how it would work with all the keyless start and fob stuff. Its a nice feature but I wouldn't consider it for the C6 your just asking for some electrical issues.

My brother had it on his Monte Carlo. It was nice, but the reception was pretty bad.

OK the installer next to my work says he need to look at it, but it CAN be done. In order to do that, one needs to leave the key fob always in the car! And then you need a complete security system on top of disabled factory system, hence new after market remotes. No way I am going that path.
Details are the battery saving mode may never engage since the fob is in the car in the glovebox compartment. They install signal relays for start button and power door lock buttons. He did not know how he can turn off the car remotely. He mentioned Clifford 4th or 5th generation brand. Don't kill the messanger.

Edit: I love everything on this car including the key fobs and how convenient they are. I am not sure any C6 owner would rather to trade original keyfobs with aftermarkets in favor of an additional feature.

I drove a new caddy sts loaner car while my vette was being repaired, It had the same start button and key fob but the fob had one more button for remote start. You would think it would come on a vette

I never understood the need for remote start. It's not good to let your engine warm up at idle. (But that is a whole other topic for discussion). It wastes fuel.
The engine warms up faster driving easy for a few miles in cold weather, and in hot weather will cool down faster driving with windows down for a few. Have we gotten that spoiled and lazy?
Just my opinion and I know I will be bashed for expressing it here.

But I don't know if it could be done. Definetly not in a manual trans. Too dangerous.

It can be done. Why GM did not do it is another question.

Well does anyone know how we can get it added to our Vettes?

Yes, I am that spoiled that when I get into my vehicle i'd love for it to be 72 degrees no matter what time of year it is. Once you get used to it, it's awesome and hard to not have.

I had both the STS and CTS as loaners once and I liked them both a lot... they just weren't fast enough. Maybe the CTS-V will fix that, but that's off topic.

Window Valet is an option to let some heat out, but it wouldn't cool
like having the AC on (or heat in the winter). Still, it is an option.

I had the feature turned off in my CTS...

Sure it can be done, but it means keeping the fob *in* the car -- permanently.

Think about that... that means:
1) The car can always be started, 24/7, by anyone who gets in the car.
2) possible dead battery, since your car will always 'sees' the fob, possibly preventing some systems from shutting down properly

You cannot just bypass the security module -- due to the 100% keyless nature of the C6, the security system is intimately tied to all the other car's systems, so you can't just jumper it as you might on other cars that have physical keys. Even C6 race cars that have to use the C6's factory computers have to mount the fob in the car permanently -- there is no easy bypass.

I supposed you could completely replace the car's computer systems with those from another non-keyless GM car, fabbing up wiring to all the cars locks, windows, lights, etc., but that seems like a pretty nuclear tactic for just being able to do a remote start, not to mention *extremely* expensive.

I certainly don't know all there is to know about the C6's systems, but I know enough to know that adding a remote start to a C6 is far from a trivial task. If anyone has done it, I'd really love to know how they managed it, and hope they will post.

Cheers,
Kent

Guys, please don't make me put a remote start in my car... LOL

This is not true, they make a clear thingie, I'm not exactly sure what it's called but... you place it in between the remote battery and the actual contacts. When the alarm gives it a "connect" the battery will make full contact and the car now sees a remote in the car and it's allowed to start.

With that, Someone will NOT be able to start the car just by pressing the start button BUT if you don't hide the key in a good spot they can find it and steal your car.
