Default What to trust, TPMS or tire gauge?

I have a couple of the pencil type $5.00 tire gauges and they seem to be within a pound of each other, but both differ from the TPMS by 2-3 lbs. on the high side. Which one is more apt to be correct/closest? TIA. I have an '07 A6.

I purchased a very accurate electronic tire pressure gauge and it reads appx. 2 psi higher than the DIC tire pressure.

Buy a real (good) tire gauge and trust that. Those Pencil types are a real POS..

Buy whatever you want and get it calibrated by a lab that can do a proper NIST traceable calibration. Then treat the gage nicely...

Instead of using a pencil style, I recommend using a dial type. I use one of Moroso's Dial Type Pressure Gauges and I love it. It's very accurate, well built, has a one foot hose and it has an air release button for easy adustments. I'd trust the Moroso pressure gauge over the T.P.M.S.

I use a dial type that consistently reads 2 psi higher then the DIC. Calibrated the gauge I believe it is a better measure of pressures.

What a silly question to ask. ha ha

I for one have complete faith and confidence in the TPMS!

Why you ask? Our TPMS is unlike any other TMPS out there. Oh yes it is. We, the few who are blessed with driving bliss that only comes with the Vette, have a product made by none other than GM. And EVERYONE knows that GM uses the best electonics in the industry. So of course the TPMS is 100% dead on accurate. So silly....

actually, they are not pos.

i have an ansi certified tire gauge that i use on my job... i checked and the dic read out is actually a constant two pounds low. cold pressure should be 30 psi. it constanly reads 28, 29 till i warm them up. i then checked them warm, dci said 32....they were 34..which is where they should be warm.

You can have ten gauges, and ten gauges will all differ.

not true. unless you are buying some dirt cheap gauges.

we have a ton of pencil type gauges under contract we hand out to users of our Gsa fleet vehicles... they cost us 1.99 a piece. they all read accurate and have been checked against more expensive gauges.

take some time and educate yourself on tires ..its worth it.. im a tire engineer in the Govt.. but go here, http://www.rma.org/ they even offer a nice little kit for tire care.... accurate "pencil" gauge...

you dont need to spend a fortune on a tire gauge folks.. trust me.....ive been in this business since 1975.

Yeah, I was going to say that I haver a couple of pencil type gauges that I compared against a secondary source and trust to be accurate to the degree that I can read the graduations on the stick.

You can build a more expensive mousetrap, but the el-cheapo ones I have fit in the glovebox better than a dial type. They also seem to be more durable.

What I can't explain is why the large brass filler/gauge combos at gas stations are horribly inaccurate.

I always go with the tire gage. The TPS is a great indicator but sometimes not all that accurate.

I have a 12 year old dial type guage which I have checked with a pencil type, and a local tire company gauge. They all read within a lb. of my dic. I've relied on my dic gauge for a long time.

I have owned quite a few 90's and 2000 model cadillacs, the eldorados devilles and sevilles were very prone to security malfunctions, and when you took it to an "authorized g.m. dealership" they never found a lasting solution to the problem, worked for awhile and then came back.
