Default nitrogen in tires, FYI

NITROGEN FOR YOUR TIRES---I'VE GOT YOU HOOKED UP ON A DEAL!

I get a lot of questions about nitrogen in tires after mentioning this a month or more ago on the air. I am a big believer in it. NASCAR and 18 wheeler operators have used it for years. All you listeners know how much I harp on you about checking your air pressure in your tires. Most of you still don't do it so for you nitrogen is a God send.

Two weeks ago I got a low tire light on my Escalade. It had leaked down to 28 from the recommended 32. So I quietly went to City Garage in Addison and asked if they could put the nitrogen in all 4 tires. It was 5:30 in the afternoon and the place was busy. I really wanted to see what they were all about. The service advisor said yes, it would take about 15 minutes, and would be $7.50 per tire plus tax. Off he went with my vehicle. 10 minutes later he was pulling back up with it, and in the meantime checked with me twice to tell me how it was coming. I was in no hurry really, I was in their super clean waiting room using their free WiFi.

I contacted their corporate office to first thank them and second let them know that I was a huge fan of Nitrogen. They told me all 16 of their DFW locations were able to perform this procedure. I let them know I would be telling CarGuy Show listeners.

Scott Morrison then offered to do it for CarGuy Show listeners for $5 per tire, or $20 for all 4! That, my friends, is a GREAT deal! All you have to do is tell the person who helps you that the CarGuy sent you!

Proper tire pressure saves gas AND makes your tires last longer and your car ride better. I checked my Escalade today and all 4 tires are still sitting at 32 pounds. If you don't check your tires weekly, I strongly suggest you get this done on all your cars.

You can find the City Garage nearest you on their terrific website: http://citygaragedfw.com

Many thanks to the good people of City Garage for doing this for CarGuy Show listeners!

It's not practical for most Vette owners. Too hard to find a business that has it. Costs too much for no good reason.

And has been beat to death here.

Nitrogen is good for some purposes, such as racing and aircraft, but only for a car if it is going to have its tires on the rims for many years to help prolong the tire life and reduce rim corrosion.

IMO, if nitrogen is free and (very) convenient fine. Otherwise and for all practical purposes...its really not worth it.

The tires in all of my vehicles have just about 78% nitrogen in them, all of the time. That $20 a week or month is going in to my Z06 fund. The nannys and nitwits over at consumer reports tested nitrogen in multiple tires for a year. They claim nitrogen is better suited for the trucking industry where 18 tires per truck have to maintan 100 psi and are checked weekly or more. It does reduce pressure loss in a passenger tire, but only by a 1.3 psi difference. This difference is more substantial in a 100 psi tire. Our government says it helps to reduce aging in your tires. I'll stick with air and check them every two weeks...that has worked just fine for the past ~18 years or so.
