I have the NAV and Onstar. Once, while on a road trip, computer sang out with the right rear tire losing pressure. I'm out in the middle of no where too. Try as I might, driving through a thinderstorm at 70mph, I couldn't get the nav to display a repair shop, dealership or anything having to do with car repair and my tire was still going down. Yes, with the runflats, not a problem however I didn't want to ruin it either. So unable to get the NAv to show what I needed, I pushed the blue Onstar button and got a fast response. They had a Chevy dealer 10 miles from my location that was open on a Saturday which this was. They downloaded the instructions into the Onstar unit and its own voice took me precisely to where the dealer was located. My Nav was not involved and besides, it was trying to tell me to get back onto the freeway to continue my trip while the Onstar was telling me to go to the location. Talk about fun!

Menu/Enter Destination/Emergency/Dealership brings up a list of the 25 closest sorted by distance. #25 on my list today is 169 miles away. If, like me, you would rather have root canal than go to a dealer, Menu/Enter Destination/Point Of Interest/Automotive/Automobile Service & Maintenance/City/5 Closest Cities. Pick the one at the top of the list. Now you are expected to type a name but you don't know the name. But if you are looking for tire repair the name might have the word tire in it so, if the T is allowed, press T and, where I am at the moment it immediately gives me a list of 1 tire store that is about 8 miles away. If I didn't like that one I could have pressed other letters and gotten other shops on the list.
Are directions like this in the manual? Nope. That's why people think the nav is bad. You have to play with it to learn how to use it. It is not as intuitive as it could be but once you learn some of the tricks you find it is very powerful.
BTW, the reason she kept telling you to get back on the interstate was you never told her to change the previous destination. You told her where you wanted to go and then with no warning you started driving somewhere else. Can you blame her for telling you how to get back on course to where you said you wanted to go? Evidently the answer is yes.
Yeah, I knew the info was in there, but at the time, I just couldn't find it. I really tried but in situation, I couldn't find it. There's a lot in there which is nice.

This is precisely why users of any other GPS nav system feel that the GM nav is not user friendly, and are prone to bashing it in comparisons... Intuitive is not a word often heard in any descripion of the GM unit - whereas expensive is... Given the comparative aftermarket options available, I'd pass on the GM unit and apply that $1,750 to something else... but that's just me...
