Help! My start button caved into the dash. I need to know how to remove the dash to put it back in place so I can start my beloved 05vette. Anyone have a link that shows how this is accomplished? Thanks a million.
This has happened to others.Do a search, hopefully it works!!The button should still work however, even though it caved in.Reach in there and get it the replace it .

Use a pry tool to loosen the speedo bezel... Reach in and push the switch back into place... A lot of these part just snap together... I did mine when I put my chrome starter button in... took me 5 minutes.

Once you get it back in try not to push it very hard when starting. I think what is happening is some of us push to hard when starting it and hold it while starting which is a habit that comes from all our other cars where we had to hold the key in the start position till it started. I find the best way is to just touch it with enough force to toggle it forward just a bit then let go right away. The system will turn the starter without holding the toggle.
Thanks a lot! Got it fixed, a small retainer clip from the middle of the bezel above the speedo popped loose and never found it :/ but everything seems secure and my car starts now!

Glad you got it fixed. For a future upgrade you might consider this,
they are great.

I did mine by popping the knee bolster off on right side, then snapping the button back in place. 5 minute job.
This happened the only time my wife ever got behind the wheel of my Vette. She thought she had to push the button through the engine bay to start the car Needless to say she never touched the car ever since. There is a silver lining in any bad situation.
Seriously... the Start switch is VERY firmly held in place -- when installed correctly!
Almost every time I have heard of this problem, there was a cluster disassembly in the recent past.
There are retention clips on both sides of the switch, and it is easy when re-installing to hear a 'click' from the clips on only one side and ASSUME the switch is fully seated, when in fact, it is not.
When clips on BOTH sides are properly engaged, it would take a near hammer blow to knock the switch out of position.

The same thing happened to me. I found the clip but couldn't find where it went. I looked and looked but couldn't find a place for it. Also removing the switch was a lot harder than I thought. Trying to release all 4 retainers and pull the switch at the same time was difficult.
Using a pry tool or a butter knife you need to release the bottom of the pod surround
Once you pop off both sides just reach in and press the switch back in
My starter button had rubbed off some of the paint and wasn't looking too good. This couldn't have been easier to swap out, wish I did it earlier. Thanks!

Been there done that and this is how I manage to get home
