Three weeks ago had new tires/wheels and new TPMS. Pressure on one does not seem to adjust. It read 27psi or 28psi. I tried pumping that tire to 40psi and drop it (30-40) mins 28psi drops to 27 when cold. All wheels double check with a good hand guage and this tire reads the same 31psi as the others. the other 3 reading 30 psi on the DIC . Asked Gene Culley his thoughts, if it would be a bad unit. He said probably not, reads or does not. During the programming stage , could it not activate??. These were bought 04 Sept 08 mounted 10 Nov 08. All ideas greatly appreciated.
I think if the one sensor failed to register properly, not only would you immediately know when re-setting the TPS's as the horn would not honk twice (which indicates successful completion of TPS re-setting procedure) but also, once you started driving the car you'd see a Service Tire Monitor warning. In the absence of a warning I'd think your sensors are all registered properly.
Instead of over-inflating the one tire, I would make sure all your tires are set to the correct pressure using a quality, hand-held gauge. Then, I'd take the car for a short drive. According to the owner's manual "The TPM sensors transmit tire pressure readings once every 60 seconds while the vehicle is being driven and once every 60 minutes when the vehicle is stationary for more than 15 minutes." When I returned I'd note the tire pressure readings from the sensors as indicated in the DIC. Then I'd re-check tire pressures using the hand-held gauge and compare readings. I'd allow for a reasonable variation but so long as the sensors/DIC indicate more-or-less equal readings I'd say they're working. Over time, I'd continue to monitor tire pressures using both the TPS's and a hand-held gauge.
From what I see, failures of the TPS's are rare but it's possible. BEZ06 is the resident expert on TPS's and TPMS tools. If he doesn't jump-in you might want to PM him and ask his opinion.

You are aware that the sensors only update after the car has been driven a bit, aren't you? If you are just sitting in the garage the sensors do not update.
Tks WayneO. I did just that and no change (28psi) Thats why I tried over inflating to see if the number change which it did not. All 4 tires did read 31psi when I started checking. I'll pm BEZ06 later. perhaps as you said he will jump in. Thanks again for your input.
