I understand 05-06 shift ***** and the 07-08 ***** are different, is this so and what are the differences....thanks
You didn't say manual or auto trans, but if you are talking manual, then the **** for 05-07 is the same and it changed in 08. The mounting screw hole location is different and the 08 version uses a chrome ring that is held on with a cam type groove and pin. The chrome ring is attached to the boot where the 05-07 versions just have the boot rolled up over a ramp.
A4 in 05 retains the standard A4 top button when they went to an A6 auto trans went to a front button.
Then there is always modders like me that have an A4 w/ an A6 shifter..

On the intructions it said to pull the boot down. Actualy you must twist the chrome ring and then the screw shows up. Thanks for the help. I had to put the boot back together.
I know this is an old thread resurection, but with the 2010 model out, i'd like to see if the shift **** and boot setup is the same. We learned last year that gm replaced the Z06 shift box to the C6 one that has the rubber bushings. There is a new outer shift boot cover for the 2010. It wouldnt suprise me if GM changed the shift **** up as well. I can tell the 08+ ***** sit about 1/4 inch lower on the shift lever.
Also can anyone conform that an 08 shift **** will not work on an 07 shifter? What if one has the upgraded shift box (part # 25823572) which is supposed to be a 2010 shift box that is used on both the 2010 C6 and Z06. Inquiring minds wanna know
