Each time i sit down in my car, (09 coupe), I need to press the 1 button to set the seat and steering wheel. I was under the impression that this was done automatically by recognizing the specific key fob. Does everyone else need to hit the 1 button to initiate pre sets?

Thanks

I think it does that with the automatic transmission, but not the manual.

I believe you need to change a setting in the DIC so it recognizes the the fob and changes the presets

Do you have both FOBs in your pocket? The FOB that gets picked up first is the winner.

I never knew recalling the seat/steering wheel position settings happens automagically with the auto transmission. I learned something new.

Yes, this was one of my disapointments between my C5 and C6, both manuals.

C5 was automatic and with the C6 I have to hit the button.
Not a big deal, but, I can't even start the car until the seat is in position. My legs are to short

Another reason to fill out your profile. We don't know whether you've got a manual or an auto tranny. With a manual, GM doesn't want the seat moving while you're starting the car because of the clutch.

If both fobs are in the car the priority goes to fob #1. Assuming you have set the memory by pressing and holding the #1 button on the car with the #1 fob with you until you hear 2 beeps. Then, each time you enter the car with the #1 fob the memory will be set for that setting. If, for any reason you move the seat manually you need to reset the memory by pressing and holding the button on the vehicle. This is by design.

There is a TSB that describes this condition as many people were taking their vehicle in for repair thinking the memory seat function was not working when, in fact, it is working correctly.

I have an '08 Z06. I have to press the 1 each time I get back into the car. Never even thought about whether the car should recognize the Fob or not to automatically position that stuff. Personally, I wouldn't want it to until I'm ready.

You're right. Because you have to depress the clutch to start the car, you can imagine what would happen if the seat moved BACK when the car started...

I have a manual with the memory and you have to push the 1 or 2 botton when you get in... They will go to your exit settings when you open the door..

The far ranging advancements of the superior auto trans make this antiquated tasking obsolete and highly unnecessary. My sympathies go out to the families and loved ones of all those unfortunate manual owners. It very sad indeed.

He's right. Auto Memory Recall only works on Automatic cars. Manual cars don't have this option in DIC. The exit position recall is automatic for both if you set the "Auto Exit Recall" option in DIC.

Upshot: manual transmission drivers must push the 1 or 2 button to recall the driving position memory. Also note that the seat won't move if the engine is started and the parking brake is not set.

Auto Memory Recall (Automatic Transmission
only)
: If your automatic transmission vehicle has the
memory package, you may have this option. This option
allows the driver’s seat, the telescopic steering column,
if your vehicle has this feature, and the outside rearview
mirrors to automatically move to the current driver’s set
position when the engine starts.

Press the OPTION button until AUTO MEMORY RECALL
appears on the display, then press the RESET button to
scroll through the following modes:
• YES
• NO (default)
If you choose YES, the driver’s seat, the outside
rearview mirrors and the telescopic steering column,
if your vehicle has this feature, positions are recalled
when you turn the ignition on.
If you choose NO, this option will turn off.
When the mode you want is selected, press the
OPTION button to set your choice and advance to
the next personal option.

I have an auto and I don't always hit #1 everytime I go in, if that's what you are refering to...i've pre set them based on the manual.

first i enter car with fob#1, adjust my seats, side mirrors, HUD, steering wheel - all to my liking and press and hold button #1 by the door panel until it beeps. that's now set to automatically adjust everytime you enter with fob#1. note you can also chose for the seat to automatically back up to its original position, that way it's easier to exit out. read manual.

do the same procedure w/ fob#2, but instead of press and hold #1 you press and hold #2 button on door panel. i adjusted that based on my wife's liking.

one time i accidentally got my wife's fob#2 and it adjusted to hers. it was so close to the steering wheel, mirrors were off even HUD, lol. so i turned it off, asked her to get fob#1 and switched, without exiting the car and then re-started it while fob#1 is in the car, to my surprise, the settings are still fob#2. so i adjusted them but didn't save the setting. when i exit out, locked car and came in later on, started the car, then it's now set to fob#1.

My '05 A4 retains the settings for entry and egress for my FOB.I don't touch the 1 button unless I want to change the settings.

My seats move to the exit position when I open the doors. I push the 1 button when I get in to get it back to the preferred position. You also have to have the emergency brake on for the button to work.

Just set your exit position the same as your preferred driving position and then you won't have to hit 1 each time you get in. I'm fairly tall (6'1") and can easily get in and out of the car without the seat moving all the way back.

I'm always amazed when someone posts this sort of comment. I don't think you have thought it through. The reason is because in the C5, you put the key in the ingition - that is when the memory returned you from the exit position to the preset.

But in the C6, you don't put the key in the ignition, so when are you expecting the car to move the seat up? On an automatic it does it when you push the starter. But a manual does not do it because of the fact that you need to push the clutch in - it's a fail safe.
