Announced today:
Despite plans to reduce Pontiac to a limited-volume brand as a part of General Motors’ efforts to stay alive, the automaker has released pricing information on the 2009 G8 GXP. Priced from $39,995, including a $685 destination charge and a $1,700 gas guzzler tax, the G8 GXP is the priciest Pontiac you can buy - but it’s also the most powerful production car to wear the red badge ever.
Pontiac says that the six-speed Tremec TR6060 manual transmission will be a $695 extra-cost option over the standard six-speed automatic. The only other factory option that potential G8 GXP buyers can check off is a $900 sunroof.
Why is the manual an extra cost option on the G8 GXP but the automatic is $1250 more on the Corvette?
Well, historically the automatic always used to cost more and the manual (often referred to as "standard") transmission was no cost extra. Corvette still follows that model. I'd guess for this new vehicle the plan is to sell most as an automatic (and I acknowledge that most Corvettes are also automatics) so maybe the "interruption" in the building process to build a manual adds cost. Or, maybe it has nothing to do with logic and this is how GM thinks they can make the most money on the product line.

It seems like some Corvette owner's are passionate about driving a manual. Would the Corvette buyer that wants a manual be more willing to pay extra than those who choose an automatic? This could be the logic behind the G8 pricing, should it also apply to Corvettes?
To the OP: Because GM doesn't have a clue about anything.
BINGO,WE HAVE A WINNER!!:
TR6060 started in the 08 VETTES.I forget what the prior version was called in 05-07 vettes..T56 or something..or was that the TERMINATOR?:

Small correction: Corvette has gone back to following that model. With the beginning of the C5 model in '97, Corvette reversed its traditional automatic costs more than man trans, and made the man trans an extra-cost option.
They changed that back with the C6.
I doubt if it has anything to do with logic, the automatic costing LESS than a manual trans.
Its strange too because an extra cost automatic in most cars adds value to the used book price, but with a Corvette, it actually detracts from the used book.
