Default Push Pin Removal Tips...

Any tips on the removal of the "push pins" that secure some of the plastic shrouds and wheel wells throughout the C6 Corvette? I have a couple of mods to take care of over the next couple of weeks and I don't want to tear up the push pins. I figure there has to be a proper technique that won't require mutilation. And if by chance I need some replacements, anyone I can go to besides a GM dealer for these?

I used a pair of wire cutters, the flat end either side slips easily behind the pin and squeeze a little then pull them out. Was simple.

Pepboys has the tool for less than $7 - a forum member told me about it - went purchase one and works great - did not break any pins when removing (they also sell the exact pins for a couple of bucks also).

I use a V notched pry tool. You can buy bulk here a lot cheaper than the Chevy parts store. http://www.thefastenerwarehouse.com/...age/566976.htm

I use a pair of side-cut pliers like these:

You can buy pliers like this for a little as $5.00 for small ones.

Just grab the head of the pin with the pliers & wiggle it right out.

wire cutter/dikes work well as long as you dont get jiggy with em and dont cut them in half. I found the push pins at oreilys are very similiar to the O.E. ones if you tear any up. They arent exact but are close. good luck, paul

Can I please get a lift on this thread. It seems a lot of people with push pin know how are reading this.
I plan on installing a Callaway Honker and a pre-cut shroud, you need to remove some pins from the shroud, and re-use them when you assemble everything. I have never done that, can anyone please let me know, maybe with a link, which pushpins I need, because I'm almost certain I'm going to demolish a few in the removal process.

Sorry again, not trying to hijack this thread.

I use a tiny flathead screwdriver to pop it up slightly (there's a small groove on each where i can insert it) then follow that with needle nose pliers to remove it all the way, works like a charm for me and haven't broken one yet.

I have the technique down to the point that I ONLY need the flat blade screw driver. Using the proper size to lift the pin and then TURNING the blade clockwise (I'm right handed) while moving the handle down to pry the pin out works very well for me.

As mentioned, go to about any auto parts store and buy a pry tool. Remove one of the push pins and take it to an auto parts store (or even the dealership parts department) to find the correct match. You may not need them but it's wise to buy some extras.

I remove the airbox on my LPE CAI frequently to clean and change the filter...I think there's something like 9 or 11 push-pins involved. Occasionally, I'll have to replace a worn or broken one. It's not a big deal.
