Hello All:
Took my car to the dealerbecause I think the reverse lock out isn't working. I've had the car sence 05. The dealer is saying it is normal for the car to slide over to the reverse gate when it is moving forward at any speed. It will not go into reverse but I don't think you should be able to even get it to go into the gate. If this is normal then everyone would blow 4/5 shifts all the time hunting for 5th, Am I nuts or right
I think this is normal. The C5 was much worse in this regard, because the 5th gear gate was further from center than in the C6. Still, with either one you have to be trying to go past the gate, because only a small amount of pressure is required to move from the self-centering 3-4 gate. Just my opinion. I never really had a problem.
I've never noticed this before. It seems to me, you have to use a lot more force and direction to find reverse than you do to shift into 5th gear. I mostly use 5th (and 6th) gear as an over-drive gear for sustained highway driving but I don't think I've ever come close to hitting reverse while shifting into 5th gear. I also shift somewhat slowly and 'deliberately' into 5th gear...I'm not power-shifting the 4-5.
I could only imagine this problem happening if you're using too much force and direction trying to find 5th gear or if there were a mechanical problem. Good luck and let us know what happens.

Yeah, I agree. I see it as virtually impossible to shift to reverse by accident.
Could someone just try to push the shifter over past the 5/6 gate if you can, don't worry it will NOT go into reverse, I just need to know for sure in mine it moves over very easy now with no effert at all. Even if you try it will not go up enough to go into reverse
