Default OBD II code scanner

I would like some comments from those who have used the type of OBD II code scanner sold by WalMart. At $98 is it worth buying or not and is it easy to use? Thanks for your help.

FYI, In order to read the codes in the C6's, the Reader must be what is known as a CAN OBD2 type. If it does not say CAN on it, It will NOT read your Vettes trouble codes nor even talk to the EMS computer . The INNOVA / model 3100 will do the job, about $130.00 or so at PepBoys Its usually on sale for about $100 if you check the ads.
Good Luck.

I ordered one from DIYdiagnostics.com for $59.99 and it is CAN enabled and you can erase codes as well. Not sure why you would want to spend more.

try Autotap. Plug it to the vette, then plug it to your laptop. You get a live sensor reading . I have one. I love it.

I agree, I use the Equus Innova 3110 scanner. It's one of their 'mid-range' scanners and it does everything (and more) than I need.

Most of the scanners will only read codes from the PCM and those required by the EPA. You can also reset the MIL light with most of these scanners. If you want a scanner that can read and interface with other modules you will have to spend over $700 and a GM Tech II starts at over $4,000.

I like the ones that interface with my notebook so I have a big full color screen and look at customized graphs, etc. I use the Pro Scan tool that is CAN*** compatable required on all vehicles from '08 up. The tool works well, comes with a lifetime free upgrade but the customer service is lousy.
