Default My dumb mistake

Well, time for a good story I guess. So it's night time, and I'm leaving the Cheesecake Factory with a couple of yummy slices of Cheesecake, heading home. Decide to go a back way down towards the coast, a more scenic route. Zipping on down the street, light ahead turns green, and then abruptly turns yellow. I'm in that zone.....gun it and charge ahead, or do a hard stop (risking the cheesecake falling over!!). As a police station is right there, I opt for the hard stop, but I overshoot a little into the intersection (trying to save the cheesecake!)

So, there are no cars around, and I see the reason the light changed so quickly is the trolley was pulling out from the station across the intersection. I back up about 20 feet...sitting there chillin' with the music on while the trolley starts up. Wham wham wham!!!! Something, or somebody, bangs on the top of my car! I'm thinking...car jacking? someone just ran into me? WTF??

Turns out I backed up right under the damn crossing signal, which had just thumped down on top of my car, and bounced a few times. GRRRRRRR.....so I reach out the window, push it up, and zip forward a few feet. Actually no damage occurred, but I bet the guy that had pulled up behind me had a great laugh at the expense of a dumb Corvette driver!! Fortunately he couldn't see my embarrassed red face.

So, lesson learned....pay more attention. I was just cruisin' and plain never saw the signal bar. At least all ended well except for my honor.....I pledge to not embarrass our Corvette family like that again!!!

Actually refreshing to hear. We have a lot of pretend Richard Petty's on the forum that well you know. We are all human and prone to mistakes. Sounds like a nice cruise anyway.

I'm happy your car was not damaged.

Yeah, I was pretty fortunate....I thought for sure when I got home I'd have some dents or paint scuffs, but the cross bar was actually extremely light and padded. Just my pride took some beating
