A friend has a C6 and the battery has gone dead during the winter. He tried to open the trunk using the emergency key but nothing happens. The key turns, but the trunk does not release. Is there some trick to getting it open? Is this a common problem?
There have been threads posted here that indicated there was a problem with the installation of some part of the connection at the factory on some C6s.
Maybe someone else here can provide more info., including a link to the pics showing what the problem might be,

If turning the key harder/further doesn't work check to make sure the cable is attached to the rear pull down motor. There is reports that this cable is not connected.
If the lock cannot be made to work, you can jump the battery by connecting to the positive pole of the starter and the frame. This should give enough juice to allow the fob to open a door.
Hopefully, you don't have the problem Ft Morgan shows. Otherwise, if this is the first, or even the tenth time using the key, be very careful as said above, but just keep working the key. It really is very difficult to turn at first (or tenth).
What your friend doesn't want to do is break off the key in the lock. Then, you've got more problems. Obviously.

Can't believe I did not say after he gets the hatch open by what ever means. By this time he should have smashed in the rear glass, one problem solved.
I just had the same problem with my '07 roadster. The dealer suggested that I have the car towed to the dealership for repairs. Thanks to johnodrake for the great info ! I jacked up the right side of my vette and hooked up my battery charger to the starter post. I had the door opened in 5 minutes! As it turned out, the dealer forgot to hook up the emergency cable when they changed my trunk latch assembly under warranty. I re-attached the cable with a set of needle nose pliers in another 5 minutes. Note to self: leave hood open a bit while storing vette.
