I know this is old news, but now that Michelin supplies tires for Corvette (ZR1), how soon before we see this technology on a Corvette?
No more TPS, bent rims, etc. and I bet it rides better and is quieter than the GY tires.
I haven't finished my first cup of coffee yet but what specifically do the tires supplied by Michelin for the ZR1 have to do with experimental technology tires (which numerous tire makers are working-on)?
Interesting technology but I guess those needing to adjust tire 'pressures' at the track have to buy separate plastic inserts. Maybe they'll develop fake, snap-in sidewalls to mitigate the ugliness factor.
The pics show the cross section for demonstration only. The production tires would have sidewalls and look like any conventional tire. This is from a very old article and it hasn't happened yet so don't hold your breath. Like many concepts, thats all this has been so far. I would tend to believe that many of it's advantages are due to sidewall height. A low profile version may be difficult as it may hinder it's abilities.

Sorry - I forgot there is no sidewall on those pix that says Michelin. Others are working on it, but I believe Michelin was the first big player to actually showcase it (they call it "Tweel")....so they may actually have an edge in bringing it to the mainstream. If that happens, they are already a supplier to Corvette - that was my connection.
